Much of the duct work i cut was very old and thick and never i had a problem. I highly recommend you use a drill with an actual electric plug. Cordless drills didnt work well for me. **Q: Can I cut through wood with this?** A: Your bit only comes through about 1/4-5/16. I would be afraid you may have a hard time. I think it would cut wood ok just not deep. Sheet metal is very thin 21 gauge **Q: Can it cut circles in 20 gauge stainless steel?** A: According to Malco website, this item is rated to cut up to a 20 gauge maximum in GALVENIZED metal. I am not sure if stainless would be considered a harder substance. Since 20 gauge is the maximum, I would use this product very slowly and carefully while attempting to cut. I would also have additional bits on hand in case it should break in the middle of a project. **Q: How well does it cut sheet plastic?** A: I've never cut plastic with mine, but I have cut hundreds and hundreds of holes in sheet metal. My guess is that it would work fine in plastic IF you take your time and let the bit do the cutting.
