Q: Can i/would i use a banana plug inside the wall when connecting this to plate, and outside wall going to my components?

Yes, you can use banana plugs inside the wall , it makes for a better connection. I would recommend it. I used them when I rewired my house and don't have any issues

Q: Can you use 12 gauge speaker wire with this?

I used 12 gauge wire; However, I used regular copper wire since I was having to cable a new building.
