And though the strap is not detachable, it is adjustable, which is more important to me. He's diabetic and needs something to keep his supplies in. He LOVES this bag. He can fit all his supplies, pens, his wallet, and a small laptop in the bag with no problems. It's very nicely constructed and the leather is very soft. The compartments are roomy and he can fit everything he need in it. Update: Well the strap broke about a week ago. My father was very disappointed because he loved this bag. The fact that he wasn't carrying anything heavy in the bag made the strap breaking even more disappointing.
