Q: I am unable to open the battery compartment. Can someone give me a clue how to ooen it? Ive tried and tried to slide it as indicated with no luck.

Hi; Unfortunately its just battery operated. You are not able to connect any button on it. it has a on\off switch on it.

Q: Does it activate as soon as you flip the "On" switch? Or do you push a button to get it to activate?

It starts right up. Ours does not have an extra button.
