You don't have to use the leaves they are separate.

how tall is the tree?

About 4 foot tall.If you position the tree about 5inches above the baseboard and use the extra space to put a boarder of something underneath it,it will look great.

How do you get them to stick. I put a sticker up and five minutes later it’s peeling and falling off

Your walls probably need cleaning. Scrub walls with soapy water, then rinse with clear water with a bit of vinegar added. Mine adhered well. I put them up 6 months ago and they're still in place.
