The ssd failed within the first 2-3 years of use, and due to the design it can’t be fixed. I have been trying to make a claim under the warranty and Amazon told me to speak with WD. Sandisk now deals with this area so the claim has to now go through them. I would look for another brand or style of SSD so if this failure occurres you have a possibility of fixing it. Its a shame, when it worked it was great, speeds were good enough and it was small and portable which was a great factor when trying to carry minimal gear

It's fast and compact, but I needed this to work as external drive on Mac mini. The problem is it disconnects every single day and sometimes in the middle of use. I have to unplug and connect again each time. After checking online, seems a very common issue and solution might be to update firmware. I just don't want to be bothered with that and decided to buy Samsung external SSD instead and will never buy SanDisk or WD again. This is so embarrassing, even pathetic - the one thing it's supposed to do...

Thankfully I am writing this review after over 6 months of use and up until last week I would say that it was great, very fast and perfect, but then the nightmare happened. While still plugged in and not touched the 'eject error' appeared on on screen, which was weird as I hadn't touched the device and then my iMac wouldn't read it, not even in disk utility. I even tried a Windows computer as that can sometimes work but still nothing. After contacting a specialist recovery company they said that the device had failed and that is was a case as to whether the data can be retrieved. I am still waiting to find out but either way the device is useless now. I thought SSD were supposed to be better, he said that in some respects they were, ie you can drop and it would break but that if not being used remotely, living the house etc then HDD are better. I am completely gutted about this. I am professional wedding videographer and to have this happen is a nightmare. I'm yet to find out the result but I'm dreading having to make those phone calls.

Size , look and feel is great. The main thing; the function? Can’t perform. My drive randomly unmounted itself a month into use, and it wouldn’t mount again. I bought this a month ago having only read Amazon reviews. If you dig a little deeper you’ll find reddit forums, YouTube videos and multiple articles all with similar problems, drive unmounted itself leading to lots of data loss. Sandisk took a long time to acknowledge there were problems with the 4tb and 1tb extreme pro models. I’m sure they will take their time in acknowledging a defect with 2tb extreme models. Sandisk customer care was useless. Do not buy if you value your data

UPDATE: THIS DAMN THING DECIDED TO STOP ACCEPTING MY PASSWORD! A PASSWORD THAT IVE BEEN USING SINCE THE DAY IT WAS SET UP OVER A YEAR AGO!! THEIR SUPPORT IS ATROCIOUS! I HAVE LOST PICTURES AND VIDEOS GOING BACK OVER 20 YEARS! I WAS STUPID TO SET THE PASSWORD UP AS I HELD SENSITIVE PROPERTY AND WILL DOCUMENTS PLUS OTHERS! I WAS EVEN MORE STUPID TO PUT FAITH IN THIS DAMN THING! HOW CAN IT GO TO WORKING FINE TO ALL OF A SUDDEN NOT RECOGNISING MY PASSWORD! 20+ YEARS WORTH OF DATA GONE! First ever external SSD I’ve purchased. It was to replace my almost 10 year old external HDD and my god what a massive difference. Transferring and opening files feels instantaneous compared to laboured like before. I’m yet to use it as an external drive for my PlayStation but word from others seem to say it’s really good for that too.

This item was corrupted when received and therefore not fit for purpose. Amazon created a return option for me; however despite receiving confirmation from Royal Mail that this was delivered Amazon have claimed they cannot locate it. This is probably a perfectly decent product I don't have an issue with the manufacturer just the supplier. I would not recommend purchasing high price items from Amazon from this experience. Not only have I have spent so much money on a faulty product but also so much time on the phone trying to sort this out with customer services. All their reassurances that they will check it out and get back in touch with me have been empty promises.

If you decide to purchase this drive, ensure you have a robust backup plan in place, as you might find yourself in a similar situation with little to no warning.

This is SSD is insanely fast provided you connect it using a USB-C cable and is very compact for an 8TB capacity it's insane! It is very reliable coming from a well known brand such as SanDisk.
