These bongos have a composite shell which looks very good. Buffalo hide heads are top quality. Decent hardware. The sound is on the high side but it has a very nice pop when the heads are tensioned. Very satisfied with these bongos. I am curious how a $500 pair would sound compared to these, but I can’t imagine they’d be that much better. A professional percussionist checked them out and said they were just fine and the higher pitch would complement his congas.

This is the first pro style bongos I ever played on.. so my review is going to be colored. And so is the sound from these great bongos. Warm and delicious when I want and that pop is right there waiting for me. Nothing at all about this one sounds "plastic", and because it is.. it is more resistant to humidity. Great fun.
