Digital PL330 AM/FM/LW/SW Worldband Radio with Single Side Band Receiver

This radio is the best in its class! Don't waste your money on any of the others, THIS IS THE ONE!It's feature packed. There is no other radio in this range that offers the features this one does. Serious listeners are gonna want the SSB capability. Not to mention the sensitivity, which is fantastic on this reciever. Obviously I haven't tried every single radio in this class / price range but the PL330 is very good.I have some less expensive XHDATA recievers and those are ok but the PL330 outperforms them by a long shot. The speakers on the XHDATA are a bit better than on this one but the speaker on the PL330 is more than adequate and the trade off is well worth the increased performance. The PL330 is slim and diminutive, and you actually could slip it in to a pocket, unlike other "pocket" radios. The PL330 FEELS solid and well built, where others in its class feel more lightweight and plastic like.Features I wish the PL330 had? I'd happily trade its longwave band for Weather band/Alert, and AIRband. But you seldom get everything in one unit, especially at this price. The C. Crane Skywave 2 has everything you'd want, but it's more than double the price at time of writing.I'm glad I chose this as my first reciever. If I had chosen one of the others that I've since purchased, I mightve thrown them in a dusty drawer and abandoned my interest altogether. If you're only gonna buy one, choose this one. It's worth it.

I got this little radio largely for it's shortwave SSB capabilities, listening to amateur radio bands. It works surprisingly well for the size of the small antenna attached. I bought a little retractable wire spool antenna to go with it, and have noticed that on longer wavelength bands, like 75-meters, the added wire helps a lot, even just 6 feet of extra wire brought signal to noise levels up quite a bit.I really like the rechargeable lithium battery. It seems to run a long time on a charge. USB charging is also very convenient.The biggest weakness I've observed is the tuning knob, which has detents and fights you, combined with the receiver muting with each 1kHz step. This makes it difficult when tuning all around a band looking for SSB or CW stations. I also have the Tecsun PL-600, and it does not do this, but allowed smooth tuning without muting. The tuning knob also feels a bit flimsy. For this reason, the radio is not as pleasant to use on the amateur radio bands, and not sure how long before the tuning knob may fail. I have had to lubricate the tuning encoder on my PL-600 several times after it froze up.I miss the built-in stand to prop up the radio at a convenient angle when listening, but that's not a big deal.General FM and Medium Wave AM reception is very nice, though I think my PL-600 may be a bit more sensitive on medium wave AM, and a little better sounding due to the larger speaker. A small tunable medium wave loop antenna might enhance AM reception further.The different SSB filter settings work well, but I wish there was a filter width between the 2.7kHz and 1.2kHz widths - like 1.8kHz or so. The 4kHz width is too hissy and harsh sounding for pleasant listening on SSB, IMO.This will still likely be my go-to radio to throw in a bag for traveling now, as the SSB reception seems quite a bit better than my Tecsun PL-600, but for everyday listening on amateur radio bands, the klunky tuning with muting every 1kHz isn't great. The PL-600 seemed either too insensitive or too overloaded a lot of the time, so the PL-330 seems way better in that regard. It handles strong signals from a full size dipole antenna remarkably well also, without much AGC pumping or distortion.I will still be on the lookout though for a portable with a really high quality tuning knob (weighted would be nice) and smooth SSB/CW tuning on shortwave. Some of the portable HF transceivers are probably the next closest thing to what I'd like, but with pricing in the thousand dollar range are hard to justify, at least unless I get into portable QRP operating.For what the PL-330 is - an inexpensive portable receiver - I still think it is a really good value for the price, maybe the best deal going right now.

PROS-Sensitive-Feature packed- SSB-Feels good in hand / Quality/CONS-Still no kick stand-Alot of features will take time to learnI purchased this radio mainly for its strong SW capabilities and to use as a portable /small emergency radio. It recieves a variety of SW channels. Religious and foreign language seems always available. Different nights and times , it gets other stations also. I have heard foreign news channels in English , Music from other countries, Replays of old time radio shows and talk shows .It is a fun hobby !It has also renewed my love of AM and FM . It receives over 100 AM channels some nights. I also do DXing. Sound is clear ! Battery charge is long lasting . When its time to charge - with one bar it took about 3 and a half hours to fully charge. I purchased a twin package of spare batteries ($8 on Amazon ) to prepare for emergencies . Powerful and feature packed ! I am happy !

I was skeptical, but this is an awesome little radio.

As an Amateur Radio Operator, I normally listen to shortwave broadcasts on one of my transceivers out in my radio room. However, I also like to listen to a few programs on the AM broadcast band from time to time and began researching what would be the best portable unit for my needs. Having watched several YouTube videos by "Todderbert" and "OfficialSWLchannel," and others, I decided the Tecsun PL330 was right for me.The deciding factor for me is that the front end is not easily overloaded by a lengthy long wire antenna, and it processes heavy signal load quite well. The small form factor that fits inside the carrying case I found years ago for my Retekess V115 is a bonus. The lowest priced receiver capable of demodulating Single Sideband transmissions was the icing on the cake.There are shortwave receivers with more features, and there are certainly some with better overall sound and control layouts, but NONE have as many features for the money as the Tecsun PL330. For less than eighty USD, this little gems punches way over its weight. As an entry level shortwave receiver it offers much, for those wanting to get into the SWL hobby. As an emergency radio, this feature packed rig has everything needed to keep you informed. Even if you just want to listen to FM, it sounds great.I just don't think you can go wrong with this radio at such a low price point.

I'm actually pretty surprised by this little guy. Even though I'm always doing ham radio stuff, it took a little bit of playing with and reading the instructions to figure out how this one operates. Size and button limitations may make it a pain for some users, but just keep playing with it or watch a YT on it.Mine is Type C charging, and the battery has lasted several hours already.AM/FM has great reception. SW works good too as long as the bands aren't funky due to solar storms.Tip: Look for station freqs and time schedules for SW stuff. They aren't on or available 24/7 like AM/FM is.Night time is your friend here.Nice touch with a signal strength and signal to noise read out.

Great features, good reception, good sound. The ETM seperate memory locations are awesome, as base memory is not being erased with new ETM scans. The Sort Memory by Frequency function is a must for me (now). Regular memory can scan all SW bands, erasing old and storing current broadcasts. Good interface. The layout of controls is so logical, I can operate all functions in the dark by feel. The manual was surprisingly useful. Plug or clip-on wire works well. Highly recommend this radio.

Sehr leistungsfähiges Leichtgewicht. Man muss sich zwar erst mit den kleinen Tästchen und der leider nicht ganz so intuitiven Bedienung zurechtfinden, aber man gewöhnt sich recht schnell daran.Schade ist, dass das Gerät keinen ausklappbaren Aufsteller hat und relativ leicht umfällt. Nutzt man eine externe, ausziehbare Drahtantenne (wie z.B. in dem hier bei Amazon angebotenen Bundle), zieht einem - je nach Aufhängung und Aufhängehöhe der Antenne - das Gewicht der Antenne auch schon mal das Radio quer über den Tisch. Das ist der Nachteil, wenn das Gerät selber so leicht ist.Abgesehen davon kann sich das Gerät bei den Empfangsleistungen durchaus mit meinem alten Grundig Satellit 3400 messen. Der Empfänger hat eine gute Trennschärfe und kann auch starke Sender 5kHz weiter oben bei entsprechend eingestellter Bandbreite gut "in Zaum" halten.Klanglich kann man bei dem kleinen Lautsprecher natürlich nicht allzuviel erwarten, aber über die mitgelieferten Ohrhörer ist der Klang akzeptabel, wenngleich auch nicht gerade HiFi-Qualität auf UKW erwartet werden kann. Der mitgelieferte Akku ist sehr leistungsfähig und das Radio benötigt nicht viel Strom, so daß der Akku auch einige Zeit durchhält.Fazit: ich bin begeistert von dem kleinen Teil. Klein, leicht und gut zu bedienen. Kann ich empfehlen.

Lovely little radio, the overall feel is that this is a quality build, all the buttons, knobs casing are very well built. The sound quality is great and the battery lasts long. I need to learn more about SW to provide a review on that but the FM AM channels work great. This is a great emergency radio to have in the house.

The channels not eatable and charge and voice not clear in most of time. Also the battery getting finished in very short time
