Massacres In Manchuria: Sino-Japanese War Prints 1894-5 (Ukiyo-e Master Series)

Great Collection of 1894-1895 Japanese Art.
Great re-printing of some vert interesting images from the time period, introduced in a chronological format as if you were following the war as it unfolded. The only thing I was hoping for was more description on the individual art itself (there are a few pages of written description at the beginning but that is all). This is a great collection of art from the period.

Excellent Book on Sino-Japanese War Woodblock Prints
Excellent! This is the best source on Japanese woodblock triptyches of the 1894-95 Sino-Japanese war. More than 200 triptyches by all the well-known Meiji-era artists such as Kiyochika, Chikanobu, and Gekko, plus some by lesser-known artists. Most works seen in other sources are here, and there are some works by well-known artists that are not reproduced elsewhere. The reproductions, while somewhat small at 2 per page, are excellent. Although there is no coverage of either the single-sheet senso-e works or the illustrated history books by Kubota Beisen, and no word on sources of the prints, those are very minor limitations. If you like this senso-e genre, or earlier musha-e (warrior pictures), you will love this!
