I would order an extra large to make sure it will fit. I am 6 foot tall and weigh 190, I ordered a large and it fits me just right. I have a small orchard with 35 fruit trees so when I go out to the orchard I wear my O'Neill shirt and it does just fine for the UV protection, it is also comfortable, I would say this shirt would do just fine for hiking, as a hiker make sure you take along the right kind of backup shirt, maybe a sweat shirt or a light weight tee shirt. for the hotter part of the day.
