I miss neato
Another update: I can admit it when I'm wrong. This neato is still rolling and cleaning my house. And since they've stopped making them, I love it more everyday. The other brands that I've tried just aren't anywhere close to neato quality. I still say this model wasn't as good as the previous models, but it sure is better than the rest of what's out there. Update:. I bought two. Returned one right away for the reasons below. Kept one for myself. It's awful. I've been using Neeto for a long time. Some models have been lemons that barely lasted a year. But this is the first Neeto I've had that doesn't clean. It just pushes debris around. The dust bin is practically empty after an hour of cleaning, whereas my previous Neato would have been tightly packed. Carpet? Might as well blow your breath over that rug. This model of Neeto will not clean it at all. I bought this vacuum as a gift for family with a cabin in the woods -- no internet by choice. This vacuum is not just wifi-enabled. It's WiFi-required. Without it, the vacuum does nothing but blink at you. Why? I've been buying Neatos for well over a decade. The older models were great. Now they've made them ridiculous.

More than disappointed
I like that it cleans well. It's quiet. The HEPA filter is easy to clean. That's all the good I have to say about it. It wasn't easy to program. I didn't have any problems connecting to Wi-Fi, but I had to run it three times before it actually completed cleaning the whole house, created an accurate map, and returned to the charger on its own. I worked with customer support for about a month before I decided they actually weren't going to solve the problem. It has run about 18 times. It has made it back to the charger about 6. It gets lost. When it does, it bumps into the same object repeatedly, or runs in circles. Fortunately, it usually continues to clean, so it does a fairly good job of cleaning the whole house multiple times even though it's lost. For this reason, the NoGo zones are worthless. If it doesn't know where it is on the map, it doesn't know where not to go. I had high hopes for this. I am disappointed. A few days ago, it started it's regular run, moved about two feet from the charger, spun around in circles for awhile, and then stopped, saying that it did recognize it's surroundings. I can’t recommend it unless you don't mind babysitting. UPDATE: I've changed my rating to 1 star. I'm so disgusted with this thing, I want to throw it in the trash. It doesn't clean the whole house multiple times it just cleans the same area that it's already done. There's a seting that says what to do if it gets lost. The default is continue cleaning. I changed it to cancel. Now it tries to return to the charger which it can never find. The maps it creates don't make any sense. I started working with support again. So far nothing different than before. They just keep telling me the same things that I've tried before or something equally worhless. Today, they told me to remove the battery to reset the device. Surprise! It didn't work. UPDATE 2: They had me send it to them for repair. When it came back, it worked okay. It didn't get lost. It completed its cleaning run. After about a month, it stopped notifying me that it finished. At the same time it stopped recording the cleaning runs, so I can't tell where it's been. This was important because it didn't always clean all of the areas it was assigned to do. A few days ago, I decided to delete it from the app and start over. Now it won't connect at all. I can still run it manually but I'm really annoyed. I contacted customer service three days ago and got a message saying that no one was available and that they would contact me. Crickets. I've had this worthless piece of junk for six months. It was functional for about one month.

Amazing Robot Vacuum Cleaner
Having used this for a while now, I highly recommend this intelligent robot vacuum and here is why: Heard a lot of great things about the Neato D8 and after comparing all the robot vacuum cleaners out there, the D8 made a lot of sense to us. We had an older model from a different brand and man I wish I had made the switch much earlier than this! Some of the big things that drew me to it was: The D-Shape design which allows for a larger brush so the vacuum can get more done in less time and after seeing it in action it's very efficient in getting the house cleaned fast. Another thing was the LIDAR navigation, we have a toddler and an infant so it's important for us to be able to setup zones so we really wanted a vacuum with it and this one had just that and it works quite well. The battery life and ability to auto-charge, this may not sound like a big deal but if you are gone all day or are busy outside and just want the vacuum to really clean the house, it helps a LOT. It's actually pretty neat to hear it say "going to charge, will resuming cleaning later" and it actually working! Different cleaning modes - Working from home, this is important to me as I can have the vacuum clean while am working on the ECO Mode (almost whisper quiet) and have it run on turbo mode when we aren't here which comparing it to our old robot, it's that loud anyways. As for the app, it's VERY responsive and easy to use, we got the vacuum setup in literally no time at all, it was almost shocking how quick and easy the setup was. Having two little ones, this thing is a must and again, my only regret is not having gotten it sooner, do yourself a favor and grab one too!

Worth it for the cost
This is my 3rd Neato and cheapest. Other two got ruined, but at no fault of the Neato. This time, I decided to go with a cheaper Neato. My take, it is quieter and more suction. Run time is a little shorter, but is enough to take care of what I use it for in one charge. If yours is not, it just returns to charging base and takes off again once charged. Not a big deal. This cheaper one, and first one I had with an edge brush, does not work(it never turns). The one thing they all have in common, is they get confused and stuck when they are faced with obstacles. I am not sure that will ever change. I bought my first Neato when they first came out.

I’ve had Neato for 8 years, this is the worst model ever.
Ok, I have had 5 or 6 Neato vacuums over 8+ years since I first got one. Now normally the newer models were faster, smarter and with more options. Note that all my complaints I have are specifically about the D8 I have the D4 that was used for a smaller area that runs perfectly and way better than the much more expensive and newer D8. I’ve even ran them both at the same time and the D4 runs way faster and cleans better and does not get stuck on all the things the D8 gets stuck on. Here comes the D8! I needed a new one as we run ours daily and they break down over time. I bought it for $400 plus a 3 year warranty because these things will break within that time period. Longest one was 14 months before something broke but again we use them daily. So first off, navigation. This thing is dumb. The guiding system is simply broke. I have had this thing push into a wall, corner or leg of something and just sit there and push and push and push for minutes. Never does anything to fix itself. Rugs! The D8 is simply incapable of managing even the most basic of pile on a rug. It’ll stop going and say it’s wheels are stuck, often midway into a rug. Speed, even on its turbo mode it’s incredibly slow. Most likely due to the poor navigation system. App, I have older models and now must use two apps and the vacuum frequently disconnects from the app which then means the vacuum only runs on ECO mode which is literally a pointless and painfully slow mode that will immediately get stuck on literally everything. Overall I hate this robot. I didn’t notice all these problems until past my return period with Amazon but will be messaging their customer service to see if I can get this thing refunded as we do not use it because it just gets stuck. We have since switched brands.

I really wanted to like this :^(
After having a low-level, not-smart roomba, I was excited to get something that puts a little more thought into its cleaning, especially now that I have a cat. I like how it maps out the perimeter and fills in the space rather than bumping around aimlessly. All the little perks this comes with (no-zones, etc) I don’t really use, so this review is strictly about the vacuum itself. The two stars are for support (had some issues setting it up, they were super helpful) and how it is when it’s on a flat open surface, not having to interact with anything. It picks up stuff pretty well, a lot better than my old roomba. HOWEVER, when it comes to navigating around the base of chairs or switching between wood veneer and rugs, it’s straight up awful. First off, the spinning brush on the side stops working the second something comes into contact with it. Literally anything, a ledge, a mat, the feet of a chair, etc. I have to pause and restart upwards of 6 times to get the brush spinning again. I clean it out regularly, it’s not because it’s tangled. It gets stuck on the foot of my chairs constantly and doesn’t do a good job cleaning around the feet, so I have to go behind it with my hand vac. Not what you wanna be doing with a vacuum at this price point. And I even got this on “sale” (6 months later, it’s still the same price, so not sure how much of a sale it really was). The chairs are a little unconventionally-shaped, but it can’t figure out how to navigate them. It gets stuck on them nearly every time I run it. And I run it once a week…I am so tired of having to stop what I’m doing to go fix it. When it’s going on top of a lightly padded kitchen mat, it doesn’t pick up anything around the edge of the mat. Again, not a fan of having to go behind it. Essentially, it does a really good job filling in its cleaning area and picking up everything in a flat empty space, but when it comes to edges and mats, it really misses the mark. Unfortunately, that was the whole reason I bought this. I expected it to do a better job with those “tricky” areas. Maybe I was naive in expecting to be able to just let it do its thing while I cleaned, but I figured something at this price point could handle unconventional chair feet. I wanted to like this! I was initially so impressed with the suction power, but I’ve had it for half a year now and I’m only growing more frustrated with it and wishing I got something else. You can definitely find something better at a similar price point.

Never been more frustrated with a piece of technology
Update: I found that the standard Eco mode is much better suited to creating a new map. I had high hopes for this robot. The reviews of other Neato vacs gave very positive reviews, but this one has been frustrating from the beginning. I purchased it shortly after it came out and paid the $350 price at the time. It was more expensive that other ones I was looking at, but I figured it would be worth it if it's as good as the other ones. I was wrong. Apparently this was one of the first Neato models to use a new app. As such, all the features that reviewers raved about in other models were gone in the new app. Now over time, these features have been added back in, but it took a long time to get there. I am still missing 3rd party integration with my Home Assistant home automation server, but I've long since endured my grief and accepted defeat on that point. Now to the vacuum itself. Suction: The Eco mode is a joke. I have to run it on Turbo, which greatly reduces the battery life, but it gets a better clean. Still, on a hard floor, it will completely miss dirt and other debris, despite driving right over top of it. Edge cleaning: Despite having a rotating brush on the side designed to get into the cracks and crevices, the robot stays about 1-2 inches from the wall and never gets that brush into the corner where the carpet and the baseboard meet. When the robot makes a right-turn around something, it will pull forward past the turn, stop, turn right, move forward, and then edge closer to the wall or object (cabinet, for example). This leaves about a 6-8 inches half-circle that didn't get cleaned, and after it makes its way around the room, it will not get that area again. Maps: The maps are the most frustrating aspect. At Christmas, the robot could not sweep where the Christmas tree was (obviously). After Christmas, we took down the tree, but for some reason, the robot still thought the tree was there. It had apparently learned to go around it and incorporated it into its permanent map. The same is true for a cat play cube that was in the middle of the floor. After first encountering it, it then learned to go around it. The result was that, even after the cube was removed, the robot still thought it was there, would circle around that spot, and simply not sweep it. "Oh! Let's just create a new map!" I thought. So I deleted the maps and have started creating a new one. Uh, no. New maps: Creating a map seems fairly simple. However, it is a full-day affair. If you want to have an accurate map, you should pick up anything laying around on the floor that might get in the way. Cat towers, cat beds, toys that the kids were playing with in the morning, etc. I also suggest getting chairs out of the way. Otherwise, the robot spends time going around each chair, which causes the map-learning process to take longer. So on multiple occasions I have started the re-learning process. Then about 6 hours into the day, the stupid thing gets lost and can't find its way back to the base. The solution? Pick it up and place it on the dock. The problem? "I have been moved. Cancelling my cleaning run." Everything that you have done prior to that has been lost. So you have to go around again, move things as it tries to get through, and just babysit it. Once you can get a map in, then you can program areas to avoid, but you can't do that until you get a map. And it seems like it struggles learning new maps.

Great, functional robot vacuum. Neato is my favorite as user of vacuum robots since 2012
Ordered at 4pm PST on Friday May 28th and the Neato D8 arrived by 1:30PM on Sunday May 30th. Amazingly fast delivery. Even with the automatic software upgrade, from unpacking until the robot went cleaning took less than 10 minutes. We also have the Neato D7 and love it. Compared to the D7 the D8 has a slightly lower profile, which allowed it to clean under a certain couch without getting stuck - the one that D7 was simply too tall for. More suction power than the D7. With several pets in our household, our floor is always covered in fur. Having a robot vacuum is truly life-changing. Just press a button and the floor is cleaned in the entire house. The fact that Neato uses lasers instead of cameras means it works in the dark with no lighting. Unlike some of the reviewers here we haven't had any issues - either with the D7 which we've now had for years nor this new D8. In fact it makes me question the integrity and motivation of the 1-star reviews, and was a big factor for my decision to post my own review, since I seldom review products on Amazon. The navigation is impeccable. Notice in the video how on the very first try while the robot is in the process of creating the floor map, it follows a very curved wall with remarkable precision. That was a pleasant surprise. Compared to the D7 the D8 is even more refined. The charging base is also a about 1/4 the size of the D7's base. Vacuuming with Neato is quick and easy and not a chore. Love it.

I love-love-love my new Neato D8
Before this D8, I owned their first generation 1 machine (XV-11). The one that ran on the Linux o/s we could actually program ourselves. So with several generations apart, to this D8 though it has its quirks. Directly comparing it to the old XV-11 and I could see the improvements. I have read a lot of peoples reviews of why the D8 is not to their liking and I disagree. To me, Neato is the forefront of robot vacuum cleaners. None other sounds like a jet engine revving its engine before takeoff when the robot first leaves its dock. I used the APP and even followed it around the house from a safe distance to watch what it does. Using the APP I am able to block off areas I don't want it to go. Though I agree with Reddit users. The previous generation APP with the ability to draw polygons was a lot better than this newer updated version limited to boxes. Even the orientation the robot creates our floorplan from is actually based on GPS directions as I realized though my building faces north/south we're on a slight angle so the floorplan map looks lopsided. I wish it didn't do that. But all in all, its a good buy... so much I bought a second one from the flyer the seller tucked into the lid. Bought the 2nd one as a gift. They too love it.

Used to be a good brand
I bought a Neat-O d7 Connected in 2018 and it was fantastic!! I had four large dogs and the D7 would pick up nearly all the hair every night! Best machine ever!!! Sadly, the support is diametrically opposite... worst service ever. I lost access to my Neat-O account and thought it was my password. I tried to reset it using the app but it didn't work. I contacted support via email (there is no number to call) and was sent a link to reset my password. The link was circular... I click the link and get a Web page that says to enter my email address. I click reset and I get another email with the same link. I tried creating a new account (different email address) but that doesn't work either. After three more attempts to contact support I get an email saying my request has been escalated... That was seven months ago and I still can't use my vacuum. I bought a D8 (it uses different software) and I was able to create an account. After letting it charge overnight I let it run and start mapping the place. I ran for about an hour and almost made it back to the charging station... but not quite. I helped it the rest of the way back to the docking station but it won't charge... So, I now have an old D7 that would run if it could connect to the Neat-O servers and a new D8 that will make an excellent door stop. I truly loved my D7 but I will never deal with Neat-O again. I just ordered an HONITURE Robot Vacuum and Mop with Auto Empty Station, 3500Pa for $390.00 (a third of what I paid for my D7) It should arrive in a few days and I'm anxious to see it it's as good as the D7 and hope the company is better than Neat-O...!!

Won't connect to app
Initially it did connect to the app. So I could see the map where it went and turn it on virtually. One day it disconnect from the wifi and I haven't been able to get it reconnected for weeks. Customer service never got back to me. It still cleans when I manually press the play button, but I'm unsure if it's doing the systematic room learning and getting the route more and more efficiently or just rescanning anew everytime. It's predecessor the D3 and ita app is still superior.

The app is no longer working
This was great while the app lasted but now it only works manually.
