I bought it because it said Pentel. Kept it for the same reason
I give 5-star reviews to products that are what they sell themselves as being. For the most part, I'm very careful what I buy and seek features and other reviews. As such I give a lot of 5-star reviews because I get what I'm expecting. Rarely does a brand name mean much to me. This is not true of Pentel. I think I bought my very first Pentel mechanical pencil when I was no more than 10 and I'm turning 63 in 2024. I've been buying their pens and pencils since their first decade of existence. I looked for a quality gel pen in this price range and the Libretto came up and I could immediately tell I wanted one.I have one now. I constantly find myself handing the pen to others, saying: "try this!" And they try it and want to know where to get one.Pros:* Not too heavy; not too light* Gel inserts are in many colors* Gel inserts write smoothly and clearlyCons:* .... I can't think of anything negative. Oh! I know:* I'd like a few other styles, like gold and white gold trim* I'd like 0.5mm refills in all the color (OK, that one belongs over in the refill review)And neither pro nor con, it looks really good next to my Pentel Graphgear 1000 pencils. ("Here! Try this pencil.")4

DON'T EVEN THINK OF BUYING ANOTHER PEN YOU'VE TRIED THIS PEN.
Look NO further for the BEST pen at the right price. I am rather biased towards PENTEL; their products have never failed to live up to their advertised claims. I've been buying their products for over 40 years. They are THAT good. I began writing with a PARKER fountain pen...which I LOVED. But PENTEL has won me over; their quality, fit, and finish are second to none. I can not imagine anybody buying this pen and returning it, for ANY reason...it's THAT good. It's properly weighted, and it feels good in your hand. The ink's color is true and dries very fast. Don't fool around with other LESSER pens...If you are a serious writer...THIS is the pen for you!!!

Good Follow-Up to Excalibur
What sets this apart from other affordable metal body executive style rollerballs is the weight; it feels robust yet not overly heavy. It allows for great ease of use without tiring your hand during an extended writing session. The pen has a satisfying connection when posted and snaps securely; no worries the cap is going to separate from the barrel. If you prefer a larger girth, I’d say this is more in the slim-medium range very much like a Century II, however the contour of the grip makes up for this, however, it is not textured like the Excalibur or RSVP. The reliability of the Energel refill that it takes is also a great feature, as it is easily accessible when out of ink. I do wish the body came in other color variations, however, it is an overall great instrument for the home or office. Could make a great gift too! Pentel did a good job with this design to follow-up on the Excalibur which has always been a mainstay.

“My Precious”—Mom’s pen!!!
I’m here today buying a 2nd Pentel Libretto for my son’s 19th birthday. I bought mine about 2 years ago, and I don’t let it out of my sight! Although we have at least 100 pens of all different types, inks, & widths throughout our house, my husband & 3 adult children bypass them ALL to instead use “Mom’s pen”—but not without my express permission first! This pen has pretty much become “My Precious”!After 2 years, all the things I love about this pen are just as great today as on the 1st day I bought it:1) Perfect luxurious weight in my hand2) Super-smooth writing3) Just-right 0.7mm width gel tip4) Durable—still shiny & beautiful after all this time, & cap still clicks on securely5) Affordable pen with high-end luxury look & feel6) Easy-to-find, affordable gel refills (you can choose a different size width refill to suit your preference)The ONLY con: I wish Pentel made at least 1 other colorway Libretto so we will be able to tell mine & my son’s pens apart! A shiny or matte black body with gold accents would be beautiful, especially for men!

Attractive and Durable
I've been using this pen multiple times daily for almost a year now and I'm very pleased with it. The cap still clicks and holds tightly on both ends. This pen is slightly heavy and smooth, but even so, this pen is wonderful to use. When I drop it, I'm never worried about it breaking, but I am worried about it landing on the pen tip because it's a heavier pen. It's a good thing that the refills are cheap because this has happened a few times. I love this pen and every time someone sees it for the first time they comment on how nice it is. I highly recommend this to anyone.

The Pentel Libretto is the winner.
I'm serious when it comes to pens. For years, I only used fountain pens, but a leak on a pricey leather portfolio, plus a desire for something more practical, led me on a search for a good alternative. I wanted a pen that wrote smoothly, because I was spoiled by fountain pens. They probably provide the best writing experience. I also needed a pen that would be comfortable to hold. My fingers are really long for a woman, plus I had a thumb injury that causes the webbing between my thumb and index finger to hurt, if my pen grip is not just so. A pen that it too short, too long, too slim, too heavy, too anything, is problematic. Add to that, the fact that I became a pen snob. I have fountain pens that cost between $100 and $600. Don't judge. I work in the industry and didn't actually pay for a lot of them, including the most expensive ones. But, I don't want my pen to look cheap in my writing folder. The Pentel Libretto Energel writes really smoothly, rarely ever skipping. It glides over the paper, so my hand doesn't get tired. The weight is great. It's not a light pen, nor is it a heavy pen. It's slim enough to fit into the pen loop, but not a stick pen. It also has a nicely designed grip, so it doesn't dig into my finger. I write a lot and get the refills in bulk. I tried 0.3mm, 0.5mm, and 0.7mm. It's a toss up between the 0.5mm and 0.7mm, but I'm leaning towards the latter.
