UniFi Protect G4 Dome Camera | Compact 4MP Vandal-Resistant Weatherproof Cam with Integrated IR LEDs, Motion Only Alert (UVC-G4-DOME)

Great camera for the price. Delivered on time without any hiccups. Quality of the camera is wonderful and easy to install. Requires Poe switch or injector for power. Requires ubiquiti control system but was so easy to get up and running. After plugging in the Ethernet cable the camera was recognized and setup was complete after I adopted the camera into the network.

The biggest issue I have right now with Ubiquity is the availability of their product. They make a great product set however, I either need to pay way over retail and buy through Amazon or not get it at all most of the time. What I do is watch the UI website and stock up when I have the ability. However, in a down economy, that’s not necessarily a great thing. Although, in order to service my clients I do need to have a certain amount of inventory on hand. It’s definitely a balancing act. Oh and by the way, five stars for all things Ubiquity!

the G4 cameras are very good , easy to configure

Ok, this G4 camera is great. It has a tremendous detailed video feed, great night vision and picks up motion super well. The Smart detection for identifying ONLY people is awesome, it can differentiate my dog from a person and only a person will trigger the notification to my phone (although it DOES record all motion for later review, should you so desire). This ability to differentiate between motion and people is great, cuts down on spurious bongs to my phone. It seems to actually learn the difference over time, although I am not sure about this. The Smart Detect did pick up my Dog initially but now no longer does on the Smart Detect, only on the Motion Detect level. However, the system does have a few drawbacks. I really wanted a self contained video camera surveillance system, WITHOUT Cloud communication. This system will do this for the most part, the video is self contained onsite. Unfortunately, the notifications can only be enabled through the Cloud part of the system. Also the system is not particularly user friendly, you have to play around with the settings a lot to get things enabled. And a lot of them are not intuitive. On the plus side, the camera recognition by the NVR was fast and easy. On the whole if you have some tech expertise then this is a stable, high Def system with some advanced recognition features, BUT it will not be fun for those who are not fairly Tech savvy.

I recently installed a bunch of these and a bunch of the G4 pro bullet style cams on a new facility. Suffice it to say we are going to get rid of most of these dome cams and replace them with bullets. The field of view is really narrow compared to the bullets. Even for close up or smaller areas like a covered entryway or vestibule…. So before you buy these, look at the angles and do some measuring, and compare the coverages between the dome and bullet. You may find the bullet to be seriously overkill in your coverage need, but you may also find the dome to be seriously lacking in the footprint. If the coverage area is right however, these cameras have excellent picture quality, and I was able to clearly read the name and company logo written on someone’s badge flipping around in the wind as they approached the camera. Really nice frame rate and picture quality.

I have unifi, ring, and myq cameras - really like the unifi best. Software is easy-to-use and everything just works well.

Very complicated to install. Not a friendly system, need a good knowledge of security cameras, internet, programming in order to get it running. I bought mine 2 weeks ago, and suddenly it stop recording. Apparently there is some kind of “ hard drive issues”. This happened once it reached memory capacity. It’s suppose to rewrite once it’s full, but it doesn’t. Needed to be reset again in order to get it working; all recordings were lost and now it doesn’t send me push notifications. It doesn’t work as advertised. Very complicated system. You need to download 2 different apps, otherwise it doesn’t work. Need to be an expert or get ready to ask for assistance.

Solid ah tough product...install in a non weather exposed area. Great picture quality, easy to install...think about positioning and best camera lens adjustment. A great improvement over the previous version and great addition to a range of cameras...consider your needs..solid camera with a great ecosystem when using the Unifi Protect controller. Not recommended as a standalone camera as enhanced feature come when using the Unifi Protect controller
