Great book for kids

Excellent examples for kids learning how to build a complete sentence - useful for written and spoken communication... These visual organizers would make great pre-writing / pre-conversation / pre-story building worksheets... Kellie

I loved using this book as an extra resource to teach. You can use it as a differentiation tool.

Teaching writing is a tricky process. Especially if you have a classroom full of students who are on different levels. I like this series of books (Words to Sentences, Sentences to Paragraphs, and Paragraphs to Stories) because I can use the book that fits the ability level of the students. The activities in the Words to Sentences book provide many opportunities for the students to write sentences. You can build on what they offer in the book to make them more mindful of what they put on paper, so they can learn to self-monitor and eventually revise and edit as they write sentences. I teach 4th grade and right now, of my 18,I have a group of about 11 that really need this book (To get off subject, I won't have 18 for long. We're funded at 29 and because we have such low numbers, I'll probably be switched to another grade level so this class can be collapsed into the other two 4th grade classes. Dontcha just love the red tape behind public education?). The book is a starting point, not the whole writing program. I incorporate correct sentence structure, punctuation, adding adjectives and adverbs, etc. Because this book is geared toward students learning to write better sentences, it is filled with pages to copy, on which the students can write. I was leery of this at first. I try to put as much on the board as possible to avoid the worksheets. However, I do like many of the activities so... I go ahead and make the copies too sometimes. The other seven have a better grasp of sentence writing so I have them doing paragraph activities in the Sentences to Paragraphs book. This book does not really have worksheets for the students to write on. This book has teacher guided activities to help the students understand the concept of paragraph development. I find this very useful in helping me differentiate for the many writing abilities in my class.

I teach special education students and these books help me tremendously when attempting accommodations.

Extremely disappointed A 48 page book in paperback exprbitantly priced for 700 plus delivery charges! I ordered based on reviews should have been careful... Item is not returnable and burt a hole in my pocket
