After seeing some reviews saying that their unit cuts off when they connect a phone, I spent some time playing with mine. I can report that some devices switch off my unit as well. I tested with a USB powered device that regularly has problems with marginal USB chargers, and true to the experience of others it switched off my unit -- but only on one of the two power ports. The other power port on this unit worked without a hitch. Similar to the experience of others, I had to cut and restore power to reset things.I thought I had a unit with a bad port, but the "bad port" is happy to run my phone and at currents higher than my "problem device" generally uses (though I only tested up to about 350mA today). If I had to guess, I would say that at least one power port has a problem with "inrush current."I'm torn between awarding 3 stars and 4 stars for the unit I have. In the end, I decided that it will fulfill the uses I need and I'm not going to try to exchange it. Fortunately I had wired mine with a switch, so cycling it if necessary will not be an inconvenience.

6-9-17 Update: It appears the first unit I received was defective. BlueFire read my review and sent a replacement. I just tested it and it is working perfectly. Thank you for the replacement and I look forward to using it this summer!Original Review: So I attached a 9V battery to test the accuracy of the Volt Meter and it read 7.9v on a brand new battery. Huh... Maybe it's just a weak battery. I tried another battery and got a similar result. So I checked both batteries with my DVOM and they were both around 9.1v. This thing draws so much power to run the LED light display that it was pulling the voltage down on the 9V battery. I hooked it back up to the new battery and it was completely dead in just a few hours. The only way I will install this on my boat is if it's switched and I wasn't planning on that.

Very cool addition to my RV!My camper's voltage monitor was simply a 4 dot LED display, located the the bathroom. This cool little number is more accurate, and was easily mounted in a 1-1/8" hole near the door. Simply find a nice location near an always hot 12v wire, and wire it in parallel.I'm sure this would add accuracy and convenience to any RV, boat, powersport machine, or lawn equipment.

So far so good. This will not have an easy life tied to my motorcycle handlebar. I will follow up in a few months to review how it holds up. The voltage readout is a great idea. You don't want to use your vehicle battery to charge devices when the voltage drops too low. Quality looks good !Update: it's been several months. The charger is still working fine. It has survived a few rides in the rain too. I also just purchased another one of these to power a GPS and iPhone charger for my daughters car. Display could be a little bigger but otherwise a great investment. Got one for the car and one for the boat. Took less than an hour to install each. Been using over 3 months and working great. Charges phones, iPads, Nintendo switch, camera, and many other devices without all the various adaptors for the standard cigarette lighter charger.

Only lasted about 3 months.The LED volt meter is nice to have but after 3 months that's all it does, shows the voltage. The USB ports are no longer working. I'll be looking for a different brand replacement.

Replaced the cigarette lighter in my car with this awesome charging port.Update: 2016-12-24This port DOES NOT provide the 4.2A as advertised, none of my devices that require greater than 1.0A are charging properly. They all report that this charger is not providing enough current, to change the cable or charging source. The same cable works perfectly with the original charger. Now I have to purchase another charger.

Simple and easy to install. I had to make the hole where the cigarette lighter was originally located a bit larger, but once that was completed, I wired it up and it worked. I can now charge two more items on my motorcycle and this shows my voltage level. The only drawback is that the blue LED lights on it are hard to see in direct sunlight. Other than that, it works as expected.
