Husband used this twice to reseal beer bottles, and both times top of bottle shattered after a couple of hours in frig. What is he doing wrong?

Since metal contracts in the cold, sliding the sealer on as far as possible may be the cause as the steel contracts on the fragile glass. It just needs a snug fit versus a tight one. I've used mine that way for dozens of bottles with no shatter.

What's the difference between the silver and original finishes for sale other than price?

I purchased the silver and it holds a shine similar to a stainless steel that has been polished. I assume the original finish is an unpolished metal.
