Combined w/ my practice of 2D & 3D shapes (circles, squares, triangles), & my anatomical studies through Love Life Drawing on YT, I've been able to make great progress. However, where the book excells in explaining the details that separate different species, & different styles of drawing these characters, it only shows you how to draw them in a few limited poses -- by necesity as it covers several species & helpful details on how to draw each, & variations of each. So unless you have enough experience drawing characters, or understanding of drawing 3D shapes, or understanding of human anatomy, you will have to work harder to make use of the information.
