Worth a try - that is hard to answer when I do not know all of the chemicals used in the products.

Does this really work?

No, not that I can tell. I bought 5 for an apartment that I rent out with mild smoke smell and it didn't help so I ended up having to purchase an air purifier for my tenant. At the same time I bought 5 for myself just to freshen my house during cold weather when I can't open windows and I can't tell any difference what so ever. It was a total waste of money for me.
