Q: What size are the compartments ?

Each compartment is 1.25"x1.25" -- exactly the size of mini distress ink containers. The box holds 12 containers, and the lid is transparent so you can see all the colors.

Q: Has anyone bought this tin for Tim Holtz distress blending brushes? (not ink pads) And if so - how many brushes does it hold?

The tin holds 3 rows of 4 mini distress inks, it has a plastic insert that keeps the inkpads in place. You can remove the plastic insert to make your brushes fit. I'd measure the brush to be sure the tin is long enough, but I think you could get 3-4 brushes in minimum. If not, check out the distress crayon tin.

Sorry I am unfamiliar with GinaK's mini cubes, the Tim Holtz Distress Ink minis are 1 -1/4" X 1-1/4" by 3/4"deep cubes

Yes, if you remove the plastic tray insert you can fit 9 dew drop inks inside versus the tray and cube inks which allow for 12 ink cubes.
