Sangean H202 Portable AM/FM/Weather Alert, Digital Tuning Waterproof Shower Radio with Bluetooth

Got this as a gift. I love it so much. I use it at work, outside, in the shower, and in the kitchen.

Over the past, I would guess, 15 years we have had two of the Sony shower radios. They were great. They lasted a really long time, the sound quality was good and the batteries lasted forever. So when the second one broke recently I went onto Amazon looking for another one. I was intrigued when I saw the Sangean shower radio offered. It had great ratings and had all of the same features as the Sony. BUT it also had Bluetooth capabilities. This is huge. I like to listen to my iPhone when I'm in the shower but I don't want to get it wet, of course. I used to resort to putting my phone in a baggie and hoping there wouldn't be a leak. But the Sangean solved this problem. Connecting to BT is easy and the sound is very clear.The other reason I like the Sangean over the Sony is that all of the controls are on the FACE of the Sangean. On the Sony they are on top. I'm 5'4" tall. With the radio hanging from the shower head it is impossible for me to see the top of the Sony without moving it. I can clearly see the Sangean controls without standing on my tiptoes and moving the radio out of position.Some other positives are that we get good reception on the unit (we are in a mountain area) and it has a little light on the side. Not sure why I need a light on the side of my shower radio but there it is. I guess if the power goes out while I'm showering I've got it covered. There is also an emergency siren but the button is located on the side of the unit. If I fall in the shower there is no way I will be able to reach all the way up to the shower head to activate the little siren. Maybe I could use it to summon my husband to bring me a towel if I do the laundry and forget to put a fresh towel out! I guess it is a "spouse summoner", other than that, I have no idea. :-)The only thing I would change is to make the readout on the clock darker and easier to see. The Sony was better at that.I can't to speak to how long it will last. We have had other Sangean products and they have lasted a long time. I expect this will be the same.***UPDATE*** it’s October 2023 and this radio is still working. :-)***UPDATE*** it finally died in November 2025. It lasted 14 years. Worth it. We bought the same thing to replace it.

This is my second shower radio. It’s an upgrade from the first I bought over 6 years ago. Simple to install . Bought for my husband . He loves it . Am/fm Bluetooth. It is sturdy . ItGood price excellent quality. Buy it don’t hesitate.

Excelente producto. Es el segundo que compro pues mi hijo (12) siempre lo sacaba de mi baño para usarlo cuando se bañaba. Ante tanto uso, decidí mejor comprarle el suyo y ambos somos felices. Él solo lo usa con el enlace a Bluetooth y yo lo uso tanto en Radio como con Bluetooth. Muy recomendable.

Mar 2017 Update:Wow. I bought this in Sept of 2014 (2.5 years ago), and it finally exhausted its first pair of generic alkaline D batteries. My use is about 30 minutes per day of news radio (not music - which would use more power) while getting ready for work. Volume level 17-20. The first indicator of battery wear out was when the battery indicator went from 3 bars to 2 about 6 months ago. It finally got to no bars a month or two ago (with LED backlight starting to get sketchy), and the sounds finally got kind of staticy yesterday - time for replacement. That's simply great battery life!A clarification on the FM sensitivity. I live about 30 miles from DC area and can't get its NPR Washington station (perhaps not the strongest FM station) on any other radio in the house (even decent-quality component receivers with plain dipole antennae), but this one gets it fine on a way interior wall in the house on the first floor with the standard 18" single wire antenna hanging from the radio. Impressive.Update on the mounting: They supply several strips of very sticky tape to secure the plate to the wall (or you can use screws). The unit started listing a bit (1/8") after a year or so, indicating that the tape was giving way slowly. I sent an email to the US Sangean reps, and they nicely sent me some replacement strips (really nice customer service). Looking at the markings on the tape backing and doing some research, it seems that the tape is 3M VHB (very high bonding) tape - yes, really sticky stuff. But it says in their application materials that bonding to ceramic tile (i.e., like shower tile) needs special preparation and recommends pre-treating the area with alcohol. (Note that many ceramic tiles are gently textured (like mine), and that limits the pressure you can apply to all areas to help it adhere best.) I didn't realize this originally. Well, I carefully separated the plate from the wall, cleaned the tile with alcohol, re-mounted it with new tape strips, and then forced some silicone RTV sealant between the plate and the tile on 3 sides in the very small gap (~1/16") that appears there. Since then, it's been rock solid.Very happy camper!Original (unedited) review:Great radio. Works perfectly in the shower (adequate treble to provide understandability to the news with high ambient white noise from the shower). Good sensitivity. I've been using it for months and the battery life indicator still shows full; battery life not an issue - don't waste your money on an AC charger for this unit unless you use it for hours per day).It comes with a wall mounting adaptor (comes with ~3 3M double-stick tape strips) and mounts very securely to shower tile.Cons: The alarm / timer seems less than useful for my purposes.
