I had a pillow from Sobekowa (sp) that had flattened somewhat with age. I added new ones to it after a year or more if use. I recently ordered a new one and from the beginning it seemed too flat. So I ordered these replacement hulls to add more support. After a few months I added about another 1 1/2 cups. To really answer your question, if the hulls were really old, I’d toss them and begin w all fresh ones. **Q: Please clarfty: How many needed to fill a regular bed pillow standard size? Someone said 5 or 6 which seems excessive.** A: To give you an idea of the "size," the buckwheat hulls are in a sealed plastic bag that fits snugly into a box that is 11" x 11" x 3.5." Not sure if that helps you to gauge how many you'd need, but I don't think that 5-6 is probably excessive. Sort of depends on how well-filled you want your pillow to be.
