Monterey Futon Set with Storage Drawers, with Barbados Base and Oregon Trail Saddle Mattress

This was the easiest furniture install I’ve done. Parts and instructions were organized perfectly. The instructions and online install video made it incredibly easy to set up. The futon looks great, the mattress is very comfy, and the drawers work well. It is a bit difficult to fold back into a chair, but I’m guessing that will get easier with time. I might add a pull strap to the top to make it easier (strap would be easily hidden).

Item arrived days ahead of estimated delivery date so we were really happy about that. Easy to follow instructions with color and number codes to match parts. It took one person about an hour. Good sturdy quality, nice butternut finish, fits our FULL size futon mattress perfectly, looks great, comfortable sitting or for bed :)

Super easy to assemble. Everything is well labeled and even color coded to ensure proper orientation. I put it together entirely on my own why running after my 1 yo. They accidentally shipped 2 sets of arms instead of the drawers. I called the number provided and spoke Joe. He set up a fedex pickup for the arms. All I had to do was set the box back outside; no labels to print, no hauling it to a drop off. And my drawers arrived in no time- called on Thursday and arrived Monday. This is not your typical dorm room futon. It’s an attractive and sturdy couch that lays down to a full size bed with a real mattress. Looking forward to enjoying this piece for years to come.

So I'm always worried about things that have so few reviews, I don't know why, it just makes me feel like I'm taking a risk, but I decided to take it with this futon and WOW. -This is by far the easiest piece of furniture I ever put together. You only need the provided allen wrenches. Instructions were pretty clear but the assembly itself is also just pretty simple. What was surprising was the hardware pieces were labeled also by step! (see pictures). I have been putting together a lot of furniture lately so it was just...so great...at how easy this was to put together. I thought it would be a lot more difficult. -The hardware is all metal and the wood is really hard, we were surprised at how heavy the boxes were. I don't think there was any plastic involved which was nice. I'm hoping this means we will get many years out of it. -Instructions for the drawers are separate from futon assembly instructions It came in three boxes (well, the mattress was a 4th box but that was technically a separate purchase) and the box with the drawers have the instructions. Just mentioning this because I had a moment of panic when the instructions ended before we got to the drawers. The drawers also do not attach to the futon which means nothing to me other than I think that's why they aren't even next to each other. You can kinda see in the picture the gap and tilt. I assume this is more due to my floors than the drawers themselves. This might bother some people but I don't really care. They roll really nicely on the carpet! The bottoms of the drawers feel much sturdier than I was expecting too. -Going from bed to couch form isn't as easy to do as the IKEA sleeper couch that is being replaced by this but I have never had a futon before so I think once we get used to the way it works it will be easier. You just have to follow the tracks so it's really not hard. Why 4 stars instead of 5. -The wood smelled so bad. I don't know how to explain it but it was bad. I thought a couple of the pieces were moldy but I decided it wasn't bad enough to be a deal breaker, I'd just clean it off. Upon further inspection of another piece I think it was actually saw dust all along not mold. It all got sprayed with disinfectant and wiped down at the very least to help with the smell. Now that's is sprayed, wiped, and been assembled a few days the smell is gone. -The mattress is also constantly sliding down while it's in futon form. It's fairly annoying so my sanity requires I come up with a way to hold it in place. I'm probably going to DIY some velcro straps or something. The mattress is super comfy though but it was a separate purchase from the same company so I suppose I should go over and review that as well. -Well, there are also 4 little wood pieces that cover some screw holes or something and they pretty much immediately popped off and were destroy in a matter of seconds by the dogs. I usually don't bother with those things so to me it's kinda whatever but I guess others might care. It could also be I didn't do a good job inserting them though. Overall I am SO happy with this purchase, it not just met but exceeded my expectations. Now we just need to see how long it holds up to 2 adults, 2 dogs, and in the near future, a child, but I do have a lot of confidence it will be just fine.

I got this sofa-bed because in the photos it seemed to be one that truly gets flat when opened and I was glad to see that it in fact is flat when opened. I've got others in the past that the center part wasn't completely flat and it's a really uneven and improper surface to sleep on. My husband put it all together by himself and, per what he told me, it wasn't an easy task because some parts are heavy and the job would have been easier done by 2 people. Nonetheless, because he followed the instructions step-by-step it was not too complicated to accomplish the task even without someone to help. Our full size futon fit it perfectly. As a sofa it is not comfortable for me because the seat part is in a steep angle and if I were to sit there for more than a couple of minutes it would really hurt my hip for the bad angle it would be on the couch. But I got it more for the purpose of having a guest bed that doesn't take too much space in the room and not to use as a couch, so I'm happy with this purchase.

Beware. This is a fine futon, being beautiful and comfortable. However, the mattress is heavy (60 lbs) and is stubborn to bend. Making putting the unit back to the couch position extremely difficult. Actually, impossible for my daughter who it was bought for. Like others said, you have to either: 1) put a strap on the upper brace and pull up. Or 2) pull the base away from the wall and have 2 people reposition. Also I want to point out, if purchasing from a vendor, review the return policy. I wanted to send it back. But the seller's rigorous 'MUSTs' were so bad that it would have cost me to return it. Now I'm stuck with a piece of furniture that, quite frankly, is useless. Outside of decor.

This futon is amazing! First off it is very comfortable, very pleasing on the eyes and the company took great care to make the assembly easy by marking all the parts and by color coding some of them and by having clear instructions. The parts were shipped in 3 boxes and the mattress came rolled up on its own Which made it easy to get the boxes in the house. The end pieces were already to put together And the bar that make the back and the seat were already together as well you just had to put the impeces on them. The drawers I already had the wheels attached to them so they were very easy to put together as well. One of the things I love about it is that the mattress has a backing on it that helps to attach to the futon so when you raise the futon up into a seating position the mattress doesn't shift positions, it stays where it's at. And the springs in the mattress are on a hinge in the middle so when you raise the back of the futon up to the sitting position, the mattress folds perfectly. I don't normally leave reviews but I looked for a pull out sofa or a futon to fit in our small room for when company came and I looked for like 6 months and finally decided on this one and so glad I did. If you're on the fence you definitely want to get this one. I would totally recommend it.
