First, this is a inexpensive Casio watch. Second, if you are looking for a Luminox or Seiko diver kind of luminescence, look elsewhere. I am a military officer in the US Army. I've been lucky enough to have been issued several military issue Marathon watches. It was on a day of boredom and with itchy pockets, that I decided to search for a cheap military looking watch and I stumbled into this watch. I bought this watch a few months back and waited before I posted a review to observe its timekeeping performance. Well, it keeps excellent time against the atomic clock. The day-date function changes flawlessly. It is water resistant to 100m, enough for me, a real Soldier, to consider it for field duty. The bezel does rotate and stays in place firmly and I had not have an issue with it moving by itself. The downside is that the night visibility is poor. There is some luminescence but is very faint. I've been able to tell time at nighttime, but with some difficulty. So, if you are looking for a cheap, nice looking reliable quartz watch, that is disposable, this is it. To be honest, if I have to issue my soldiers a field watch, I will consider issuing this watch instead of the rather expensive government contracted watches that we used to be issued. We can save the tax payers some money along the way... After I posted the review, I forgot to add two comments that may be useful to some potential buyers. 1. Battery changes. I must preface by saying that I am also a watch collector I own many watches from different brands. Based on my experience on collecting watches and servicing my quartz watches, I would recommend to get a new watch if the price for this watch still below USD$17.00 instead of changing the batteries on this watch. I do most of my battery changes on my quartz watches as I have the tools and the experience to do the changes (but you can search the internet and will find tutorials on how to do it, not that difficult). A battery may cost you between USD$2-5 dollars, depending where you buy it from. However, if you are not handy and don't have the proper tools to do it yourself, a battery change may run you anywhere between USD$10-15 depending where you live and take the watch to (Note: avoid big watch/jewelry stores or mall kiosks, support independent watchmakers). As you can see and when you do the math, it is better to buy a new watch for what you will pay to get a battery change. 2. Band size. I have a 7.5 inch wrist and this watch fits well. I think the band will support larger wrists up to 8 inches. The band is long enough to support average large wrists. I saw those questions asked in one of the reviews. I hope they help you in making your decision.

The title is not hyperbole; this watch really is quite literally the very best watch in the world for the money. Let's do a quick run-down of its features: 1. Tells time 2. Tells day 3. Tells date 4. Water resistant to 100m (330 feet) 5. Solid plastic/rubber construction 6. Glow in the dark dial and numbers We'll take it by the numbers. 1. Tells time. This is the minimum that this watch should do. In my experience, it tells time as accurately as my Citizen and Seiko watches that cost hundreds of dollars more. 2. Tells day. This is a big deal. This watch actually tells you what day of the week it is. It may not sound like a big deal, but when you get older, this is a very important feature. 3. Tells date. Most watches of some quality will do this, but to do so with the day as well? In a watch this inexpensive? Holy calendars, Batman, this watch does BOTH! 4. Water resistant to 100m. Unless you're Jaques Cousteau, you're not going to find yourself alive 100m below the surface of the water. This watch will still be ticking even if you drop it into the lake or swimming pool, or if you take a swim with the fishes under the pier. If it's the latter, at least you can look at the watch and know the time of your demise. 5. Solid plastic and rubber construction. This is a good deal. Why? Because it weighs so little, you don't feel it's on your wrist. It's also a nice matte finish which is quite stylish these days. 6. Glow in the dark dial and hands. This is a great thing. In my experience, it glows bright and long after a light source threw some photons at it. What's better is in the scenario above, where the watch wearer finds himself swimming with the fishes under the pier, if it's dark, the glow in the dark dial and hands will aid and assist in visibility if it's dark (and water gets dark the deeper you get). To sum it up, for the price, you cannot get a better quality watch with this many features. I tried. I looked for days and days, and while there are cheaper watches out there, they cannot match the quality or the features.Trust me, this is the best deal in time/day/date telling wrist-wear. Final comment: I've worn expensive watches all my life, and when I had to put them all into the watch hospital for repair, I bought this watch so that I can at least tell time. Do you know what happened? More people noticed this watch and commented on its awesomeness than they did when I wore my much nicer and more expensive watches. Not that I wear my watches to get comments, but if I did, this one would have been a much better return on my money than the others. I hope this review helps. Bottom line: if you need a watch that does it all for under $20 and will last and last, then buy this watch. If you want to throw money away, then look elsewhere. This might very well be the best deal in the universe.

For the money this watch is an excellent value. It is better than what you often get for many times the price. I started wearing Casio because by job is hard on watches. I have broken every expensive watch I have owned. Casio G-Shocks I own have lasted a decade + and what always breaks is the band which are often hard to find replacements and costly. I really only need time and date and not the extra gadgetry so this watch is a perfect solution. The band is simple to replace with a variety of options at different prices that are readily available. It is a very attractive watch and is easy to read. My wrists are on the smaller side and it wears well. The only potential negative I see is that the bezel is flush with the crystal and offers no protection. I would love to see Casio make this with a taller bezel, solar and a backlight. It is light and comfortable. I cannot speak on the durability yet but If you are on the fence just buy one. You won't be disappointed.

I needed an inexpensive watch for a road trip that would give me the day and date and allow me to add a small compass to the band. Having had several Casio watches in the past I looked at that brand first. At first, I ignored this watch, because it was so inexpensive that I figured it couldn’t be worth anything. However, after looking at several more expensive versions I returned to look at the reviews on this watch. There were enough good things said about this watch that I decided to buy it. I figured that for the price of a few gallons of gas if it only lasted a month it would have met the requirement that I had for it. I got it several days ago and set it up immediately. Like several other reviewers have indicated, getting the day and date to change is a bit of a challenge initially. I resolved that by winding the minute hand past the point where I saw the date change and then continued to move that hand to after 5 AM. It was very easy to set the date and day at that point. Once I had it set up, I set the time using the Verizon time on my iPhone. I set the hour; the minute; and the second. Four days later the watch has not lost or gained a second. So it gets an A+ for accuracy. This watch is not a rugged watch but it appears that it will hold up to getting wet in rain or from perspiration and it will probably work pretty well in the humid environments. The numbers and markings on the face are very easy to see in the daytime. However, there are no luminous features on the markings so seeing it at night requires a light source. The battery claims it will work for five years in this watch. I doubt that I will be back to confirm that. The only negative comment I have is that this watch is made in the land of the Great Wall and surveillance balloons. I can’t understand why a company like Casio can’t come up with manufacturing locations in central and South America. *UPDATE* 8/4/24 - I have had this watch for a week and I am amazed. Either Verizon uses this watch to run their system clock, or this watch is tethered to my iPhone’s clock, or this watch has perfect time… Whatever it is, the watch has not lost or gained one second since I set it a week ago. For just over $20, even if it breaks down in a year, it is worth it for an outdoor or work watch. I would not hesitate to buy one again. *UPDATE* 12/18/24 Okay, here is an update that I really never figured I would make. This watch is as good, if not better, than my old Casios that crapped out after years of Army living in the field or my dress watches made by Seiko (the official timepiece of the Vietnam War). Other than the lack of luminous face features this watch is fantastic. It got a pretty good workout on the extended trip that I bought it for. It survived several soakings, jarring and long periods of extreme vibrations. The mechanical functions are still tight and the time is incredibly accurate, losing only a few seconds per month. So my advice is go ahead and buy one. If anyone from Casio is reading this I would suggest adding small tritium capsules at each hour on the face and tritium on the three hands, jack up the price a bit and sell it. It would be a great watch.

After years of wearing $20 digital waterproof watches (known as 'frogs' here in AUS), on a whim, I purchased this retro analog casio. Listed at $17, it was comparably priced, until the $10 shipping fee was added in! What the hell. after going thru all the hoops of the ordering process, I decided a couple of extra bucks was no big deal. Indeed, the watch duly arrived after a couple of weeks; in a package that could have comfortably held a Gideon Bible, triple wrapped in industrial strength packing tape, sturdy cardboard with cushioning plastic bubbles, and an original plastic display box. The whole thing could have survived a crash landing or I suppose, typical postal handling practices. Still, I feel that a rigid cylinder, 2" in diameter & 2" long would have sufficed and cost 1/3 the price as well as being a better environmental option. Still, this was an Amazon purchase and they probably have packaging protocols suited to book like articles. Having padded this review as well as my new watch was padded, I should probably move on to the item itself. It's OK It is very lightweight which I appreciate, and has just the one control knob, also a plus (no learning curve to use it). On the down side, someone skimped on the glow ingredient in the paint on the numerals so that in darkness the numbers rapidly fade to black like the sordid ending to a sex scene in a B grade movie. Fortunately every other blessed device I own comes with a time feature -camera, computer, car, video player, phone- and is back lit for ease of reading in the dark. Really, my 'frog' watches (I had a series of them over the years- 2 to 5 year lifespan on them, just the battery fails or the band never the watch itself) suited me in all respects but one. they have an alarm function, countdown alarm, timer, hourly beep, 12/24 alternate setting, and a nightlight! good to a depth of 100m. all that for under $20 bucks and available in any chemist (drugstore). But they are designed to be worn on the right wrist and I like to wear my watch on the left. the control buttons stick out on the right side and can be engaged by flexing my wrist. This can cause the hourly beep to self engage, ditto the alarm function. Also aberrant mode function switches. hmmmmmmmm Hence, the function-poor,dimly lit, analog Casio. Just a single old fashioned fob nestled snugly between its 2 pillars, going nowhere doing nothing unless actively pulled and intentionally twirled. Well it's 3:30pm and i've got a project to finish, so I'm off.....wait a minute, my laptop says it's only 2:30 OOPS! daylight savings has changed over. I forgot but my computer didn't. That gives me an extra hour, better reset the Casio....

This is a terrific watch for the price. I gave this watch to my mother who is elderly. I did not want to spend a large amount on a watch for her since she could easily lose it. For this model series I read some positive reviews about it. The scaling is very easy to read. This is especially good for elderly people, or for someone who has poor eyesight. I like the white numbers and hands on the black background. It shows the day of the week and the date. I found this watch very easy to set. The case is a hard type of plastic construction. The band looks to be made of a silicon base. For general use this watch is tough enough. I would not call this an outright diving watch to go in to the ocean or really deep in to the water. The crown is not a screw down type. The rotating bezel moves both clockwise and counter-clockwise, unlike the unidirectional counter-clockwise only bezels found on a good diver watch. The unidirectional bezel prevents the watch from ever accidentally displaying less time elapsed than actually has. A proper and safe diving watch bezel has stepped increments that require some force applied to rotate it. This is to not easily accidentally move the bezel. I am very sure you can take a bath or a shower while wearing this watch. I did not rate this watch for water poof because I do not intend to test it for water proof, or use it as a dive watch. For sure the person I gave this watch to will not take in in to any deep water at all. This watch is not a G-Shock series, therefore I would not put it through any very rough treatment. As for time keeping this watch is very good. I did not check it to know how many seconds per month it would maintain, but being a quartz watch and with a big name brand I do trust it will be very good for the cost. Most of these watches in this price range are officially rated to +-15 seconds per month. In reality they tend to do somewhat better. I remember on the back of the watch it said the movement was made in Japan and the case was made in China. I read that the same model of movement of this watch is used in a number of different styles in this series. 1 I would recommend this watch to anyone who wants a low cost analog watch that you can depend on. If you have a kid and you want them to have a watch that is not expensive this model could be a good choice. It is very good for the price. There is no back light or any alarms in this watch. Less features will help to lengthen the battery life. In reality a basic rule is, the more simple the watch the better off it will be over the long run. This watch makes for a good low cost watch for knocking round, and is easily replaceable in case it gets busted up.
