Sweet as puddin'
“For the longest time, I thought the power of positive thinking would get me by. And it helps, that's for dang sure. But it takes more than thinking and hoping and wishing and praying. You need a whole lot of doing.”This companion novel takes place a few months after the events in Dumplin'. Here the focus shifts to two characters who were in the supporting cast in the first book. We have Will's friend Millie and at the other end we have the star of the high school dance team, Callie. Millie is a nerdy plus size girl who aspires to be a broadcast news anchor someday. Callie is the popular pretty girl with the hot boyfriend who is next in line to be dance captain. Ordinarily Millie and Callie's worlds would never meet but circumstance throw them together. Over time they grow to see that they have more in common than they thought and an unexpected friendship blossoms. Now, I wasn't a huge fan of the first book. Willowdean as a character was rather grating. However I really enjoyed this one. The main characters are much more likable. Callie gets a chance to redeem herself here. Millie is a sweet, lovable person who chooses to see the good in people and believes in giving them second chances. Callie starts off very vain and self centered but when she's moved out of her comfort zone it gives her new perspective. Her growth was very well done. The blossoming friendship between the two was heartwarming. It has a diverse cast. There are budding romances and lessons about acceptance, body positivity, friendship and believing in yourself. In terms of plot, it's fairly predictable.Rating: 4 starsFollow me on Goodreads for more reviews. Link in bio.

Wonderful, uplifting story about friendship and self-confidence
Books like this are what we need in our society. A great story, easy to read, funny and teaching beautiful lessons. You can be confident in yourself, no matter who you are, what you look like or what your dreams are, as long as you have the humility to admit your mistakes and learn from them, the ability to forgive and genuine friends who you can laugh with and who will tell you when you are being an idiot. I laughed out loud, shed a tear and wanted to read more at the end. Yet another success from Julie Murphy.

Great read
Arrived with no extra packaging except the cardboard meaning the dust jacket was a bit creased in places and a bit marked but what can you do, great book!
