I've gotten kits like this for my kid before, and there are things I do like about this one. The selection of tools was exactly what he needed to dig out the gems. They were sturdy and didn't give him any issues throughout the process. He also liked the gems themselves. He's had bone kits and fossil kits, so gems were an interesting change. Finally, the kit wasn't too easy to complete, but also wasn't a time-hog, so that was a good balance.

I bought this for my grandson for his 7th birthday.My daughter called me to say they were both enjoying it so much! It helped his ADHD by keeping his attention. You have to work at it. She said there were no instructions. Spraying it with water was extremely helpful.He said "This is literally the funnest thing I've ever had"!

We used this for a school project and my 9 year old loved it!

I LOVED this gemstone digging kit!! I may be a little too old, but the little kid in me couldn't resist. The gems are a good size, they arent cheap looking, and they're beautiful!! The "rock" that you dig them out of was bigger than expected and a little tough to break through, but after getting a little help from water, it was easy. It's also good for distracting the kids or something fun to do while you're bored. I really loved this kit and I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun time!!

My granddaughter loved mining the gemstones. It kept her busy for quite awhile.
