MAKE YOUR LAPTOP RUN LIKE NEW
A few years ago I bought a nice gaming laptop. For the first time in my life I was turning graphics UP, rather than cranking them all the way down so they would be playable. Over the years, the laptop began slowing down... frame-rate drops at first, and finally games would slow down so much that they were completely unplayable. Since my laptop was getting hotter than the surface of the sun, I suspected heat was to blame. I bought all kinds of products - a lap desk with fans, I made sure the fans were dusted out and working, the works. I downloaded software which would allow me to throttle certain functions of the laptop to reduce heat... but then it was a race between how much the software was throttling my laptop and how much the heat was causing it to throttle itself. There were some games I gave up playing entirely, simply because they played so slow it wasn't worth it. One day, I happened to see the Klim Tempest on Amazon. Very cheap - only $30, and claimed to be universal fit. I figured, what the heck.. let's try it. And now, my laptop runs... almost like new. The Klim Tempest is a miracle device. Rather than lap desks which simply blow little puffs of air at the bottom of your PC, the Klim Tempest attaches to the exhaust ports of your laptop and literally SUCKS the hot air out and shoots it out the back. I have no clue where the less than exemplary reviews I see are getting their experiences - some say the fan isn't very powerful? Maybe you're just installing or using it wrong? When I hook up my Tempest, I can put my hand over the back of it and feel it jetting out hot air. Games that used to heat my PC up to the point that I almost couldn't touch the metal surfaces... now my laptop maintains temperature and performs as it should. No more burning hot laptop.. just high-end performance. I can once again play my favorite games - games that would overheat and slow my laptop to a crawl within minutes. The Klim is quiet and powerful. You can hear it spool up when the laptop is heating up, but trust me, if you're playing games, the sound effects will WELL overpower the sound of the Tempest - you won't hear it. You'll forget it's there. The mounting mechanism is a bit awkward. I have to be honest, I wish there were a better hook-up.. but the designers were trying to make it as universal as possible, and on that front I feel they did a good job. It might take you a few minutes or a few tries to find out what works best for you, but I've found a way of setting it up where it doesn't slip off all the time, so I'm good. Maybe in the future there will be better mounting mechanisms. Four stars out of five for being a good balance between working and usable on all laptops. It functions EXACTLY as it should. You can download software to monitor your laptop's heat level, and download software to run a stress test - give it a try: hook up the Klim Tempest CORRECTLY, (meaning make sure the seal gaskets are closing off that exhaust port and the hot air will be going exclusively into the Tempest), run a stress test to build up heat, and watch the little device work its magic. I could not be more impressed. If you find your laptop getting extremely hot and performance degrading significantly, THIS DEVICE MAY BE THE ANSWER TO ALL YOUR PROBLEMS. I can't guarantee that (you might have other issues) But for $30 how can you go wrong!? I can FINALLY play my games again, so I'm so happy. I sent the designers a kind note to let them know how much I appreciate it. They wrote back thrilled to hear that I was happy, and were even asking what kind of games I play - these are people who are not only developing an amazing product, but care about their customers. 100% satisfied, would have paid twice or three times the price for the difference it has made. Absolutely amazing and so glad I gave it a try.

If your laptop heats up gaming, you need this
This performs better than any underneath laptop fan I’ve ever had I wish I had gotten it sooner. It’s hardly a hindrance on the side, not too large. Cools well and it’s nice that it displays the temperature. Great deal 10/10 would buy again

Could be better
This thing actually works. Cooling performance is solid—once it’s on and sealed properly, it pulls heat out of the laptop really well. You can definitely feel the difference during gaming or heavier use, so on the performance side I’ve got no complaints. The reason it’s not 5 stars comes down to the build and mounting setup. The mounting plate feels pretty cheap. It’s very thin plastic and it sags under the weight of the unit instead of staying solid. That alone makes it feel less reliable than it should be. Also, if your laptop bottom isn’t completely flat, getting a proper fit is kind of annoying and you’ll struggle to get a full seal. The flip-out tabs are another missed opportunity. They’re fixed, and they don’t really account for different laptop thicknesses. It would’ve been way better if they included a few different sets—different lengths, maybe different tension—so you could actually tune it to your laptop instead of forcing it to fit. Also, the cable situation is just messy. A retractable cord built into the unit would’ve made this way cleaner and easier to deal with, especially if you’re moving it around a lot. One important thing though: the rubber seal matters a lot. If it’s not sitting right and airtight, the whole thing loses effectiveness fast. When it is sealed properly though, it does its job very well. Bottom line: Good cooling, but held back by cheap mounting parts and lack of adjustability. Still worth it if you just want performance and can deal with the setup quirks.

A solid product backed by its makers
I purchased one of these coolers out of a certain degree of curiosity and some degree of need. I have a thin-and-light gaming laptop that kicks out a lot of heat, and while it doesn't tend to thermally throttle it gets close enough that I keep my eye on things. The KLIM Tempest is very straightforward to operate and understand; a LCD readout tells you the temperature of air passing through it, whether or not the system is running in automatic mode or not, and what speed is set if not. Buttons let you adjust the minimal controls as needed. There are several rubber gaskets that you'll need to play with to get a good seal, as well as bottom "plates" that hold the whole assembly against your computer. These devices can put out a *lot* of air and I have found they notably drop device temperatures (so long as the placement of your vents and components is friendly to this kind of cooling). The only real complaint I have about the implementation as such is that the spring-loaded arms that clamp the device to the top of your laptop's deck are a bit weak and could definitely use some strengthening to keep a firmer seal. Now, for service. My first unit died somewhat inexplicably in transit while taking a train up to visit some friends. I let it sit for a while and fiddled with it occasionally, but it never came back to life. I wrote the company about the issue to file a warranty claim, and as promised got a response within 24h. They immediately offered to send a replacement unit at no cost, confirmed my address, and sent tracking information within the next day. The replacement is doing great and I'm very happy with the overall experience.

Looks - odd but works
Do they drop the CPU and GPU temps super cold.. no.. Dell runs too much voltage with a share heat pipe for that to work.. but.... it does take them longer to get to their stable below throttling temps... and - far less heat soak so I can game longer without the creep in temps I saw before. The body of the laptop stays cool now vs. uncomfortably warm. Got two; one for each vent. Connecting them was awkward on a Dell G16 - but i just stuck the suction cups under the back feet and the cooling deck it sits on holds them. So; easy enough solution. They get a bit loud at full speed but - not annoying about it. Feel quality. The comic thing included was a nice touch - as were the stickers.

Negligible difference
Honestly, it was a creative idea to make something like this in an attempt to push hot air out of your laptop quicker but it doesn't really do much as far as "cooling" it down is concerned. My son installed this for me on my laptop and he did a check before and after temps. Literally no difference in internal temperature. If anything, it was better with this cooler off than on because it was less bulk and noise in the way. The fan seems to be pretty powerful, but it made no difference regardless. The rubber gasket piece it came with didn't make a proper seal either so it leaked a lot in the process, unless you glue it or tape it down which is something I will not do to my nice laptop. No way. Stick with your stock cooling. It works best and designed to work with your laptop cooling system. The only aftermarket cooler that is proven to work is a cooling pad and that's what I was already using before buying the Klim. That's probably why it didn't make much of a difference because my laptop was already running max cool I guess. In the end, I took off the Klim blower and left my laptop the way it was, sitting on a cooling pad.

Overall not bad
Worked well. But had some issues getting it to connect to my laptop. Small easily to transport. But found it easier to get a fan board to sit the computer on. Over all good product.

KLIM Tempest Laptop Cooler
