The rug arrived folded, there was no problem getting the creases out I just laid it out. One end is still curled but it doesn't bother me. I purchased a pad for underneath but I think it would be fine without one. It doesn't have a smell, it's soft enough, not too thick. I'm still able to close the door over it, since it takes up most of the floor of the family room. I beleive a good vacuum should keep it looking fresh. Great value! I read the prior reviews and their complaints didn't deter me. Make the purchase, you'll be happy you did. Update- I loved this rug so much in my family room. I purchased a 2nd for my living room.
