I've worked as a toolmaker and designer for decades, so I happen to know a lot about trade-specific tools made for machining metal. However, when it comes to cutting sheet metal, my knowledge is limited. Recently I took on the daunting task of installing a new HVAC system in my shop and discovered that the old ducts and plenums required significant modification to fit the new HVAC system. I quickly learned that my old scissor-type snips were totally insufficient for the job and began looking for an effective and yet reasonably-priced alternative. My search led me to the Malco TS1XXX TS1 Turbo Shear which seemed to the answer to my needs. I was temped to buy one of the cheaper similar tools but decided to give it a try. From the very first cut into the difficult to reach heat duct, I knew I had made the right choice. This too works beautifully with my trusty old Milwaukee 12v cordless drill which has plenty enough torque to operate the Malco Turbo Shear. Cutting in tight areas was a cinch and cutting out holes in the plenums was easy. This tool is very well designed and quality built and should last for many years of DIY use. I'm delighted with this new tool and you will be also!

I watched a number of YouTube videos on the various Malco Turbo Shears. I was trying to cut a corrugated metal water tank. I wasn't trying to cut over the valleys and ridges of the corrugation, I was trying to cut along either a valley or a ridge. I could only get about 2 or 3 centimetres ( an inch and a half), then it would jam, and I could not get it to cut any further. Very disappointed, as I bought it specifically for this one job. As it was made in USA and not China, I had high hopes. I guess if you were cutting a sheet of totally flat metal, that was clamped down, It might work okay. Also more practice might help. I had to resort to an angle-grinder instead.

I am an Hvac tech I have a lot more expensive electric shears. These work just as good for a fifth of the cost. They fit nicely in your tool bag and will work in any drill or impact which we all have already. I haven’t had them long but even if they only last a couple years it’s worth the money you can buy five for what I paid for my makita shears. They turn corners sharp and cut relatively fast. All in all I am happy with my purchase.
