I purchased two different pairs of Stride's for my granddaughter. The size 4 fit until about 16 months then I bought her a size 5.

What size for my 4 years old ?

These shoes were for our beginner walker who is 1 yo. So we got size 3. I wouldn’t think these would be correct for your 4 y.o. There very soft .

What type of sole is on this shoe?

Great shoe for beginer walkers. It gives good supports to feet and looks good lol sole is semi soft but has tread to help stableize biginets
