They are REALLY loud - if you are within 6 feet when it goes off it will be physically painful to your ears. But a good deterrent to a burglar, I imagine. I fiddled with the sensitivity setting a bunch, till finally turning it down to minimum, and still some go off for no reason whatsoever. Moreover, they surely go off when it thunders! But otherwise, when the door is just slightly opened even slowly, they go off, so that is good.
