Question 1

One person said, cabinet "ate" 12" or less it won't work.  description says 7.5" to 17" - can someone clarify? also, i don't trust any infomercial.

I used one box to create a 12 inch wide shelving system for spices.  I used another box to create a 17 inch wide shelving system for medications/first aide.  There are add-on pieces to create different height and width to the shelves.  The ones on market today are better than the original ones sold about 10yrs ago.  Today’s version has rubber grippy on the shelf surface!  I love mine!!!

Question 2

How short are the short legs, and how tall are the tall legs?

Your cabinet shelf height should be at least 9" tall if you want to hold tall spices on the bottom and short on the top - giving you a one level shelf.  The short leg is 4" end to end, however, it's really 3.5 inches, because it has .25" to be inserted into a base and the top inserted into the shelf.  The base is about .5"  so on the short end, it would be a total of 4.5" tall once assembled - then the shelf which would account for another .5".  The tall leg, with base and shelf puts it at 6" - for me with my 8" cabinet shelf height, that leaves 2" for the short McCormick spices - which is NOT enough room.

Question 3

what is the minimum width, I have a 20" cabinet and want to put two together?

I would say the minimum is around 10.5" or so because that's what it measures if you take out the optional inserts for wider cabinets (which I use) and collapse it.  They probably have more details at Spicyshelftips.com

Question 4

Has anyone used these in a 9" wide cabinet? If so, can you provide a picture.

I don't have a picture to show you but they are adjustable to any size cabinet. There are 3 sets of vertical pieces that allows you to set that hiegth to what you need. I split the shelves up to expand my spice selection. These are pretty good and easy to put together and install.
