My nephew had been wanting a real compass for his "entire life" and was super excited to get this for his 7th birthday. His exact words were "best birthday present ever!" There is some weight to it and it seems quite sturdy. It takes it a moment to find the correct direction when spun around quickly, but give it a second and north points north. The push button to open the compass was a definite improvement over other kid compasses and gives it more of a fancy "real" look. I'd buy it again just to see the look on his face when he opened it. Total win!

This compass does not even do the most basic function. Just looks good. Please do not buy

This compass is so cool! My son absolutely loves it and it's holding up nicely to the knocks and tough love that come with kids. Also, it really is waterproof! I found this out when my son left it in his pants pocket and it got washed in the washing machine. You'd never know it had been submerged!
