I did use some longer screws than those provided for greater holding power and since I had the thickness of 2x4s to work with, that is possible in my installation. The threads on the provided screws are wide/coarse so they are probably ample if you had to work in constraints of thinner material. I assume sheet metal screws would be required. What size?** A: I mounted it on an aluminum door and it worked great I use number 10/32 machine screws but sheet metal screws would work if you don’t have access to the backside **Q: What is the diameter of the pin?** A: The pin is exactly 10 mm thick which is approximately 3/8", not 5/16" as another answer gave. **Q: What is the distance the pin extends from the latch body on the 5", 6" and 8"?** A: On mine the pin over all length is 5".
