As pictured, it is not flat, so the drain it fits on would look more like a sink drain than a drain with a grate over it. As long as the rim of the stopper makes adequate contact with the rim of the sink drain, you are good to go! I absolutely love the hand to use for removal! It's really cute as well as functional!
