Review: Awesome for hormonal acne - I buy this in the six-pack because I go through it. Honestly, I don't especially love the taste, but you do get used to it. Like many of the other reviewers here, I drink this because I have (had, thanks to this tea!!) gross hormonal acne that popped up along my jawline and the sides of my chin. (Unlike many reviewers, I'm female but I don't have PCOS, just terrible skin.) I had read somewhere that people take spironolactone for this type of acne, and had resigned myself to waiting until my insurance plan year was up so that I could go see a dermatologist, then I read on SkincareAddiction that people sometimes use spearmint for the same! Apparently it binds off with the excess androgen. For this reason, I wholeheartedly recommend this to women but I'm not sure what would happen to men if they took it, since androgen is a male hormone.... I found this product first in a local natural foods store and dove in, starting with two cups a day and tracking the number of blemishes in that area. (I am neurotic.) The first day, I had 27 blemishes. The tenth day, I had five. By then end of the first month, I had no blemishes along my jawline--at that point, as much for expense as for anything else, I scaled down to one cup a day and found that was effective for maintaining my new clear skin. I've been at this for about six months now, I'm finally eligible to go to the dermatologist and I won't bother now. Incidentally, I didn't find that it had much effect on the rest of my face--other than this hormonal stuff, I break out when I deserve to (falling asleep with makeup on, a weekend of crappy eating) and the spearmint didn't effect that either positively or negatively. I buy this in the six-pack online because it's quite difficult to find in stores! The first box that I bought was the only such box in that health food store, and I had to supplement with Bigelow's Mint Medley, which was a mix of different mints, and as far as I can tell only the spearmint has this effect. He was pretty emotional and I couldn't figure out why and remembered he had been stealing some of my tea. I know my prescription was blocking testosterone. I do not know how this works but it does something and he was a mess. Update month later: I still drink two cups of this tea. I take it morning and night. No problems with my skin yet. I am on my second cycle and my face should have at least three pimples, but I have nothing. Still very clear. I sometimes see a small bump trying to appear but it vanishes quickly. I am still taking doxycycline and I wonder how it will affect my acne when I stop that and use just tea, facial gel and DIM. Update Year Later: I went on Accutane. After that it is normal for the dr to do aldactone for maintenance. I hated the aldactone as I gained 20lbs. I found that one cup of this a day has my skin glowing. When it is that time of the month, i drink two. There is a noticeable difference. This tea works like the aldactone by being anti androgenic, which is apparently my problem. This tea gave me the same benefits without gaining weight. Now i did stop this tea for a month. I didn't change any habits and dropped 7 lbs. I think that it may slow down weight loss, but at least it does not make me gain anything. It's a must for me. Keeps my skin clear and glowing.I do recommend it.

**Q: How many packets do i have to drink to reduce the facial hair? As i have finished 20 teabags and didnt get any results so i just wonder ?**
A: I can't really advise you on this. It would depend on how severe your problem is, what's causing it etc...I don't think 20 teabags is enough to expect results. I drink spearmint tea at least 3-4 times a week, steeping it for 10 minutes before I do. It has helped with reducing facial hair for me but I didn't have a big problem with this. I think the fact that it helps to regulate hormone levels is a plus though, as long as someone is not ignoring a bigger issue that should be discussed with a health care professional. Hope this helps a bit.

**Q: What are the tea bags made of?**
A: Our Non-GMO tea bags are made from sustainably harvested abacá (Musa textilis), also sometimes known as manila hemp, and wood pulp.

**Q: did anybody see less facial hair.**
A: I happened upon a similar question and someone answered their question most brilliantly in my opinion. 

Here's a copy of the reply…

"A: Whether or not spearmint tea will reduce your facial hair depends on the reason you have it. Talk to your doctor. Some things to consider: if it's the fuzz caused by being underweight, this will not work. If it's the normal light, thin hairs that pretty much all women have, this will not work. If you have a condition such as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) that specifically raises the levels of the hormone androgen, it *might* work. MIGHT. If a different hormone imbalance is to blame, this will not work. Talk to your doctor.
If your unwanted hair IS caused by elevated androgen (get a blood test to find out, and talk to your doctor), you need to drink 16 ounces of unsweetened, strongly brewed (4 bags per 16oz of water), spearmint tea every single day -without fail- for at least 3 months...that's 360 bags of tea. MINIMUM. It works by reducing androgen, the hormone responsible for symptoms such as male pattern hair growth. Get a blood test done by your doctor to establish your base line level of androgens. Then drink the tea *every day* for three months and get retested to make sure the hormone level is dropping. If it's not, you likely also need to drastically increase exercise, completely eliminate all sugar (it interferes with the hormone re-balancing process), eat an unwaveringly healthy diet, and have a daily water intake that makes your urine clear. If you're overweight, doing these things will also help you get down to a healthy weight, which in turn helps lower androgen levels further. If your symptoms are caused by PCOS, getting it under control is not for the faint of heart and requires rock-solid dedication to living a healthy lifestyle, but it is achievable!
It takes a long time for changing body chemistry to have a visible effect. With hair, not only do you have to wait for androgen to be reduced, you also have to wait out the hair follicle's growth cycle. Once your hormones are at the proper levels *and* the follicle has finished a cycle with the hair falling out, the hair will not grow back. Resist the urge to pluck or wax. Doing that can stimulate the follicle to grow another hair. Doing *gentle* exfoliation after three months, and if blood tests show reduced hormone levels, can help loosen and remove hair that's at the end of its cycle.
Once you are symptom free, gradually replace the amount of tea you drink with plain water. There are no studies yet that indicate if the hormone reduction is permanent or if androgen levels will rise again, causing the hair to grow back. Do plenty of your own research while working with your doctor for best results. see less
