Do you need a subscription to use this?

Yes, the Cam Plus subscription is necessary for this device to work effectively because it has no local storage. And out of the box the camera is limited to a single 12 second video clip every 5 minutes. The Cam Plus subscription allows for an “unlimited” internet vent storage on Wyze servers. The subscription is $24.00 a year unless you can get a discount or deal that Wyze runs occasionally.

From the Wyze website “ Wyze Cams already record 12 seconds of motion every 5 minutes for free. Cam Plus records unlimited1 motion whenever it’s detected so you capture the full story.”

Can this unit use a memory card like the normal Wyze cameras?

No' it dont. So I never upgraded my old Wyze camera either. If they ever do put SD card in I'll buy one of these at that time. While looking at doorbell cams I seen this one and thought oh' great they "finally" have a real outside camera to get now. Nope' they're still behind, its by a long shot now too. You went backwards Wyze.

Question 3

Does this door bell have to be wired? Or can you just stick it on the wall and put a battery in it?

Yes, it has to be wired. You can still use the Wyze Video Doorbell even if you don’t have an existing doorbell set up by using a standalone 16V-24V, ≥10W transformer with wires to power up the doorbell.

Is it Alexa compatible?

Accepted Answer

If Alexa can announce it you can set a routine that when that event happens, show the camera on  device. I do that with wyze cameras now. When Alexa announces movement from the front door ring camera, I have Alexa show me the wyze camera (not the ring camera) using a routine triggered by that event.
