Nidec Servo GentleTyphoon 120mm Case Fans (2150 RPM 4pin PWM)

I am an extremely biased reviewer. I was first introduced to Gentle Typhoon AP-15's many moons ago when I used to dabble in extreme overclocking and had a custom built watercooling case that was replete with Gentle Typhoons. Why? After all the research I learned that not only do they push a tremendous amount of air and have great static pressure (tremendous when used on radiators!). The part that had me sold was my rig had an excessive amount of fans and with the use of a rheobus (fan controller) I was able to manually reduce the speed on all the fans to around 50% - even with a multitude of fans it would keep a highly overclocked cpu and triple SLI gpu setup cooled - the noise was low but even what you could hear was not unpleasant to the ear! My friends and family would be amazed at knowing the computer was going full tilt and keeping cool with very low fan noise. If you see my attached pictures the black case is a recent build where I was able to re-use some of my older fans (that had been in service for going on a decade). But I didn't have enough for two builds so I purchased these and still as good as the old AP'15's. Some minor differences as in I do here an interestingly different pitch sound when just below 50% fan speed (have all fans on a fan controller although most new motherboards can control and increase and reduce the fan speeds on the 3 pin aka DC fans with ease). The 2150 RPM ar PWM fans which I made purchase of those to use on my CPU heatsink. My fiancee is floored with how silent and pleasant the wooshing sound is coming out from her PC when she is in the middle of gaming. These fans are worth the cost and in my opinion I can't stomach a PC build that doesn't include them as the centerpiece for cooling off components!

First of all, the price provides a much better value for the performance than its main competitor, the Noctua NF-A12x25. This fan is actually quieter than the Noctua equivalent whilst moving more air. I installed two of these on my 240mm AIO liquid cooler in an ITX PC. The included fans with the AIO were cheap and noisy, so I gave the Nidec GentleTyphoons a try. These fans provide better performance, with a better price. But they did cut costs to sell these fans by not including accessories and mounting hardware. However, the PWM connecter in ugly and is not sleeved in any way. Noctua does this better in the department by shipping their fans with noise isolation material and other accessories, but they cost considerably more, especially when buying them in larger quantities. Overall, I am satisfied by the performance of the fan. I just wish there were more accessories included and the PWM connector could be sleeved.

These fans are not for those who want a silent rig. These fans are basically industrial fans. They're beefy and they roar almost constantly. Even when they're at low RPM's. And when they crank up to half way or more, they really start to scream. You'd think your computer was about to catch on fire or something because you think they're working so hard to cool things down..Nope, that's just how they normally sound. But damn, they really like to move the air around, and that's all that matters to me. I have two set up for intake to blow cool air down onto the components, whereas I used to have two lesser quality fans blowing exhaust up and out, they just wouldn't have been powerful enough to suck enough air in to make it worthwhile. But these Typhoon fans suck in a heaping amount of cooler outside air and cooled my rig down a handful of degrees. I also took the fan from my ancient Hyper 212 CPU cooler from like 15 years ago, took the bracket off and swapped my stock rear exhaust case fan with the old 212 fan which is much more capable/powerful. And it's bringing out much more exhaust than the stock fan. So now I have healthy amounts of cool air coming in from the front, and not the top thanks to the typhoons and a def upgrade to the rear from my old Hyper 212 cpu cooler. So basically, if you don't mind loud fans that get the job done very well, then buy these. If you're looking for a silent rig, then stay as far away as possible from these fans. There are alternatives similar to these that are much quiter.

I love these fans! You get lots of airflow without a lot of noise and the build quality is excellent. It makes an excellent case or radiator fan. The PWM control works well. When things are cool, this fan is quiet though not as quiet as say a Noctua FDB fan would be. When things heat up, it spins up with excellent airflow and less noise than you'd expect given the amount of air it pushes. If you're using this for a CPU cooler, note that you may have installation difficulties if your cooler uses wire clips to attach the fan to the heatsink. Some slight or not so slight modifications to the mounting ears may be needed to make it fit. (Using this with a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme for example requires a good bit of Dremel action to cut a slot in the fill between the front and rear mounting ears as this area is not open like on many fans.)

Legendary fans. Construction is very solid, this is a heavy fan. No frame flex and the blades are very rigid. Rotor housing is surprisingly dense, there's a lot of momentum available to this fan. I had read somewhere that these were specially designed to 'change' the typical sound associated with ball-bearing fans. Sounds like they've done it. It's not silent, but neither is it detectable unless you're looking for the sound on purpose. Its motor has this gentle, low pitched, dull hum that can easily be dismissed, and the wind-noise is nearly absent until hitting very high speeds, very low air turbulence. Where these really shine is in high-restriction environments (static pressure, radiators). The low turbulence continues, keeping things nice and quiet, and the quantity and velocity of air, even though a rad is remarkable. 1 of these in Pull, is more effective and quieter than 2 Corsair SP120s in Push/Pull on the same rad. The air exits in a straight line, even very close to the center. Other fans seem to scatter air at a 45 angle from just the outside edge of the fan. Recently EK (watercooling company) released a fan called the Vardar specially engineered for radiators. Fancy, but Nidec has been making nearly exactly that same fan for years, these are them.

I gave these 5 stars because they are that good. HOWEVER, I am using these for a project that is going to be portable. Part of the reason I bought them was the .13 amp rating on them. My readings on them however were quite a bit larger than that, drawing around .23 amps each. Don't get me wrong, these are fantastic fans with fantastic CFM. They are also some of the quietest I've ever had. I'm currently using them to pull air through a radiator without issue and with very little noise. Pros: -High CFM (lots of airflow) -Good static pressure -well balanced/good bearings (quiet, continue spinning long after power is stopped). Cons: -Pulls more power than retailer suggests (.23 amps vs .13 amps) -Pricey ($22 for a 120mm fan is not cheap...but they are certainly nice fans) All in all I recommend this product. Whatever your application, it'll keep cool with this.

UPDATE 12/31/19 I am changing my review for how horrible my customer service experience has been. I needed one more fan to add to the already 8 fans that I own of the same 2150pwm model that I have purchased from coolerguys over some years, only to find out upon opening the package that the fan is ALL BLACK, black shroud and black fan blades...the photos clearly show they are grey fan blades, just as all of the others I own. I would not have had a problem with the black blades if I owned all black bladed fans which I don't. OK, I'm out of some days to get this replaced I thought, let me send this one back and get it replaced...upon contacting coolerguys, they tell me they do still have some grey one's and they would be happy to exchange it and that I have to send the old one back and call them to get that setup. So I setup the return through amazon, contact coolerguys, and they start taking my information down and then the person on the phone states they would need to charge me 30.00 to have this replaced. When I heard that, I said, excuse me? What? Why are you charging me to replace an item that you guys messed up on? And even more money than the actual cost because of shipping? The person on the phone then told me that it's the manufacturers fault of why the color is wrong...OK, but you guys are selling their product, so I told him: Then who's in charge of the amazon page? Why didn't you guys update the photos and description if you guys KNEW the colors were changed? And now it's my fault? I need to pay even more money or send the old one back, wait a couple weeks, then get the new one replaced? I could not believe how ridiculous this process was when in the past, they did not even flinch to correct a problem and quickly took care of it. Having that said, the fan itself is GREAT, as I talked about in my original 5 star review below. But with awful customer service like that and having no care at all for wasting my time? No thank you. Avoid. Having used only Noctua fans back when they only had their horrid Noctua colors, I was pretty skeptical about switching brands. After doing all of my research, I was brought to Gentle Typhoon that had the exact look as well as performance I was looking for...and I'm more than glad that I got them. In hand, these are pretty heavy, feels like quality. When in use, they're very quiet, and because they're PWM, well, you can control them to your hearts content for varying speed to sound ratios. How they actually perform? They push a lot of air...these are mostly recommended for radiators, but upon testing them myself, they work just fine as case fans as well. My one and only con is the cabling on the fan, they're multi-colored and multi-wired, if the company sleeved that up with a single black sleeve, then this fan would game over all other brands. So unless you're willing to sleeve them yourself or use extensions or have them colored in some kinda way. (I personally used permanent markers, gave it a black/shiny look, but for good measure, I also have sleeved extension cables.) I know there is another website where you can buy an all black version of this fan as well as have a custom sleeve done for a price, but I don't think it's the same 2150PWM, but the lower 1800PWM version, and it's entirely black, not grey. To the company I purchased this from, Coolerguys, great company, one of my fans were defective with a screeching noise and they swiftly replaced it ASAP without question.

used these to go along with my morpheus ii core edition cooler for my vega 64. I simply couldn't be more thrilled. both of these fans have ZERO issue pushing large amount of air through the heatsink and down to the pcb / vrm's. originally I was using two arctic f12's for temporary until I received these fans. a simple fan swap dropped my core from 57c down to 49c, hbm to 51c from 69c, and hotspot from 88c to 71c! the f12's are fantastic budget fans but the typhoon's are simply outstanding and worth the higher price tag. at max rpm of 2150, if I put the fan on one end of my desk, not only can I feel the air flow on the other side of my desk (47inch width) but also the pressure. these fans put out a serious amount of static pressure. they are a bit noisier than most fluid dynamic based fans. like noctua or fluid bearing fans from other popular manufactures. but double ball bearing fans are simply reliable and can take high levels of heat. unless I put my head near them I can't here them over my case fans. above all, they're no where near jet engine status or delta's. compared to noctua new nf-a12x25 fans, the 2150 variant does offer slightly more static pressure and cfm. the noctua will be more quieter though. I do own a nf-a12x25 that I use on my heatsink but chose to go with typhoons on my morpheus because since I was getting two fans, these are cheaper and proven. the noctua really are simply an evolution off of these and all you're really getting for slightly more money is a slightly more quiet motor. I couldn't justify the higher premium for the nf-a12's if I had gotten two.

Airflow is crazy good. Good fans for radiators,used in pull configuration are crazy good and quiet,but if you looking to a push pull configuration I don't recomend, are noisy.

Für mich die besten Lüfter überhaupt. Habe schon mehrere davon verbaut und wurde nie enttäuscht. Diese Lüfter welche früher noch von Scythe vertrieben wurden ,überzeugen mit einer absoluten Wertigkeit und Laufruhe. Alle bisher von mir verbauten Lüfter funktionieren nach Jahren noch tadellos .Da sie für den rauen Industriebereich entwickelt wurden, sind sie äußerst langlebig. Einer der Hauptvorteile dieser Lüfter ist, das sie in jeder beliebigen Position betrieben werden können ohne dabei ihre Eigenschaften zu ändern. Leider bekommt man sie nicht im 140mm Format.

Le ventilateur reçu est noir contrairement à la photo mais pas grave, cela s'intègre mieux avec mon boitier. Posé sur un rad Scythe Mugen 5 revB, on ressent de suite la différence de poids avec le ventilateur qu'il remplace. Le souffle est très puissant et il est inaudible à 800rpm jusqu'aux alentours de 1000 (sur 2150 max). Par contre penser à bien le régler dans le BIOS car en mode PWM il ne descend pas sous les 1300 et en fonction de ce que l'on veut, cela peut être désagréable. Si on vise le 100% silence il faut le régler en mode DC. (Peut-être spécifique au modèle de ma carte mère, une Asus Strix X470-F, à confirmer...) Le CPU est même 4-5°c plus froid en burn et sachant qu'il ne tourne qu'à 800rpm, cela laisse encore pas mal de marge. Très content de cet achat en tout cas.

Den Lüfter habe ich für das Kühlen einer Endstufe benötigt. Viel Luftdurchsatz, leise und robust sollte der Lüfter sein. Der Preis ist heftig, aber dafür habe ich wirklich einen soliden, leisen und leistungsstarken Lüfter erhalten!
