Samsung 980 500 GB PCIe 3.0 (up to 3500mbs) NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-V8V500BW)

The Samsung 980 500GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD is a great upgrade if you want faster storage without spending a ton. It’s super quick, with read speeds up to 3500 MB/s and write speeds up to 3000 MB/s, so everything from booting up your PC to loading games feels insanely smooth. Installing it was easy, and Samsung’s Magician software is handy for keeping it optimized. Even though it doesn’t have DRAM, the Host Memory Buffer (HMB) does a great job keeping things fast in real-world use. For the price, it’s reliable, fast, and a solid pick for anyone wanting a performance boost without going overboard.

Very easy to fit. Wanted to dual boot win 10 and win 11 on this but ignored advice about disconnecting all other drives first as `hey building PCs for over 20 years I knew best didn't I`? Big mistake. Once I did, after 3 days of knowing best, it worked as expected. Previous boot disk was a standard sata SDD booting around 60 secs. This one boots in 30 secs. But the biggest benifit is the snappy loading of my apps, docs and all the other rubbish I work with. Unexpected benifit is the increase in write speed to a standard 2TB HDD up from around 800Mbs to 1.5 Gbs. Temperatures over all disks, cpu and misc chips 28c but then I don't game and my case does have 6 fans including the double cpu fan cooler.

Great little SSD. Fast access memory, slightly slower with large files (300mb or bigger) but I do t have it set up for those types of files. Runs my operating system flawlessly, start up time sub 3secs. Easy installation, check the motherboard is compatible before purchasing.

All I will say is this, if you have NOT got one of these, NVME, or M.2 in your machine, you are doing yourself a disservice!! Now, I'm no techie expert, so I can't give you all the facts, figures, stats etc. But what I CAN say from installing this in my machine, boot up is quicker, opening app and programmes is faster, transitions between A & B with an app or programme is instant, snap! And in games....noticeable difference in playablity, load times, movement etc. I am VERY, VERY glad I made the choice to get this device.

I ordered this with the advice that it was on a 3 day turnaround for delivery and most surprisingly it turned up the following morning. I purchased it to replace my old 1Tb mechanical OS drive. As the original drive had a Windows 10 installation that weighs in at 265Gb with various apps and wotnot, and was taking upwards of 2 minutes to boot, I wanted something that would give me room for expansion and faster loading times. My motherboard is a slightly older model that supports M.2 nve drives and it took a bit of fiddling to work out which slot the drive was supposed to be fitted in but after about an hour and half of messing about and playing with the BIOS settings, I had it installed, and was already using the Samsung Magician software to update the firmware and install the drivers for the SSD and start the migration process. Moving the OS to the new drive was a piece of cake. Once finished I just changed the boot order and restarted from the new SSD. Boot times were infinitely better than the mechanical HDD; around 25 seconds (to be expected) and this far I am more than satisfied with the performance. It's possible to tweak the performance further via the Samsung Magician software but you do so at the expense of storage space (cautious estimates are around 10% space loss). Whilst I'm knowledgeable about such things, I'm not going to put things like read write speeds and all the other IT mumbo jumbo that bamboozles the common man and gets the geeks hard. Suffice to say, this is a good, affordable drive packed with a decent warranty, easy to fit and transfer data from a big name manufacturer.

I needed a larger M2, this is ok double the size of the original, I cloned the original with the samsung software and the new M2 booted with no issues, this is a quick M2 the PC boots faster and software loads much quicker. I only went up to 512GB in case the firmware would not recognise the larger M2.

Always worth watching the fluctuating NVMe landscape. Sold for 27.95, (500gb) Whilst this is still only PCI 3.0 it's still a great bargain to bolster your storage. I will be watching the 1TB version too for the same reason - both the 500Gb and 1TB of this model currently offer great value.

Installed into a 2013 27" iMac, (with an adapter), it functions faster than any SATA drive. Would recommend, and was great value. It won't impress you, but you won't be underwhelmed, either. It does what it says on the tin.

I’ve had always used Samsung SSDs on all my laptops and PCs since always due to its reliability, performance and speed. Was looking to upgrade the original 128GB SSD on my Dell XPS 9350 and found this SSD at a great discount. The original SSD gave only a read/write speed of 450/138 MB/s. Once I upgraded to the 980 it hiked to 1700 MB/s read and 1200MB/s write. Which is big boost and quite noticeable. Though this less than advertised I believe it’s due to my systems limitations. Since all my other Samsung SSDs like 970 EVO, 980 Pro etc run at their full rated speeds. Overall a highly recommended SSD!!

Not every drive needs to be a top-tier PCIe 4.0 flagship, and this is the proof. For a boot drive or a system disk, the Samsung 980 is genuinely all you need — and a long stretch of use has been completely faultless. Real-world performance is what matters here, and it's excellent. Boot is instant, applications launch immediately, and everything simply feels snappy. The random performance — which is what you actually notice day to day, far more than sequential headline numbers — is strong. Sequential speeds are ample for a PCIe 3.0 drive. The DRAM-less design gets criticised on paper, but in practice Samsung's controller and Host Memory Buffer implementation handle it well: for typical system-drive use, it simply doesn't manifest as a problem. If you're doing sustained massive writes daily, buy a different class of drive — for everything else, this is the right one. Thermals have been good — it runs cool, no throttling, no need to worry about heatsinks. Samsung Magician is genuinely useful for firmware and health monitoring, and reliability has been what the brand's reputation suggests: zero errors, zero drama. Bottom line: Quick, cool, dependable, sensibly priced. If your board is PCIe 3.0 or you just want a solid system drive, this is a smart buy. 5 stars.

Ho recentemente acquistato il Samsung 980 500 GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD per sostituire il mio SSD Kioxia che fin dal primo giorno mostrava segni di surriscaldamento e latenza. Sono sempre stato un fan degli SSD Samsung per la loro affidabilità e prestazioni, ed è stato un upgrade che ha dato nuova vita al mio portatile. Iniziamo con la descrizione del prodotto. L'SSD 980 è progettato per offrire prestazioni eccezionali con l'interfaccia NVMe e la tecnologia PCIe 3.0. Ho notato immediatamente un aumento significativo nella velocità del mio laptop. Le velocità di lettura e scrittura sequenziali raggiungono rispettivamente 3.500 MB/s e 3.000 MB/s, rendendo le operazioni di caricamento dei file e delle applicazioni estremamente veloci. L'algoritmo di controllo termico Dynamic Thermal Guard di Samsung svolge un lavoro eccellente nel gestire il calore. Per la migrazione ho utilizzato un economico Case per SSD M.2 NVME USB, una volta inserito l'SSD Samsung e connesso al pc lo stesso non viene rilevatoin esplorara risorse da Windows ma viene rilevato dal software Magician con cui ho effettuato la clonazione, ho impiegato circa 25 minuti per clonare 165 GB, la velocità dipende dalla porta USB. In conclusione, il Samsung 980 500 GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD è stata una scelta eccellente per il mio laptop. Ha migliorato notevolmente le prestazioni del mio sistema, ed è supportato da caratteristiche di affidabilità che mi danno fiducia nell'uso a lungo termine. Con il prezzo in offerta di € 35, questo SSD rappresenta davvero un affare. Se stai cercando di dare nuova vita al tuo computer, questo SSD potrebbe essere la soluzione che stai cercando.

Tourne depuis 3 ans sur mon PC et il fonctionne toujours aussi bien. Je ne pensais pas au départ, mais Samsung fait du bon boulot sur les disques durs SSD. Je prends chez eux dorénavant pour changer mes anciens SSD
