Manga in Theory and Practice: The Craft of Creating Manga

This book is joning my shelf of indispensable creative tools. Even though I don't make manga it has given me so many ideas and strategies to use in other art forms. More importantly, it's full of passion, enthusiasm and respect for the creative process. I can't think of an artist or crafter who wouldn't benefit from this book. It would be a brilliant gift for a bright child wanting to create, and provides a solid philosophical and practical foundation for a long-term interest in the arts.

Awesome material. This is gold for anyone wanting to write stories, characters. Not just manga. Seriously a good resource.

As the author of the successful JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Hirohiko Araki clearly knows how to tell engaging stories that captivate audiences worldwide. I was excited when I found out that he had written a how-to book, being a JoJo fan and an aspiring writer as well. The book itself is quite an engaging and quick read, and Araki's tips can be applied to all forms of story-telling, not just manga. I also liked how he included tidbits about his own journey as a mangaka, and in hindisight wish he would have included more details about his personal growth since they were so interesting to me. After finishing the book, I also read some of his earlier works that were mentioned, and enjoyed comparing them to JoJo. You can see how Araki gradually integrated the insights shared in this book into his own work. Overall, I definitely recommend you buy this if you are looking to find out how improve your storytelling, or even if you are a fan of Araki's work.
