Read and find out about how a tadpole loses its fishy tail and gills and becomes a frog in this colorfully illustrated nonfiction picture book. Female frogs lay eggs in the water, but what hatches isn't a frog yetโit's a tadpole. Tadpoles are like tiny fish that breathe underwater through gills. As the tadpole gets older, it loses its fishy tale and its gills and grows legs and develops lungs. This picture book shows the incredible metamorphosis that occurs as a tadpole becomes a frog. This is a clear and appealing science book for early elementary age kids, both at home and in the classroom. It includes a find out more section with an illustrated guide to identify different frog species and a map showing where bull frogs can be found throughout the United States. nicely illustrated.
Lovely little book for curious minds we have been using this series for over a year and a half now, even though my son is just two (three soon) he loves to know how things work...very straight forward, nicely illustrated.

Great book for curious 5 year old.
I ordered this book for my 5 year old because she asked me about the life cycle of a frog. The book is great. Goes through each cycle and is clear enough for her to understand. It helped us create an art project about it as well.

Great for Frog Life Cycle units
We recently raised tree frog tadpoles, and this was a great companion to the frog life cycle unit. It's simple, easy to read, and we read it several times throughout our project. I especially like the information at the end about various frog types.

Informative
I had to get this book when I saw the title. My Grandson (5) loves frogs, and when I was a little girl I collected tad poles and watched them turn into frogs. This book explained how it all happens and the pictures made it easy for the kids to understand. Once again, I like them to learn something when they read, and my 6 year old granddaughter was able to read some of the book herself.

Great book for the preschool/kindergarten set!
We picked up some [invasive] bullfrog tadpoles and brought them to my son's class. This book was a lovely accompaniment for the little folks there. The ages were 3-6. They enjoyed reading this, or having it read to them- and they're even more excited about their giant tadpoles!

They are a great introduction to science for little children
We have most of the Level 1 books. They are a great introduction to science for little children. The only reason these don't get five stars is because a slightly bigger font size would have made these books excellent.
