Very nice catalog. Classic beige canvas boards. Densely illustrated: drawings, preparatory sketches, studies, clay/plaster sketches. High quality reproductions. A near whole chapter devoted to 'Ugolino and His Sons' and it's development.A return to larger format books would serve the images best.Chapters break down as: Becoming Carpeaux, Sculptor of the Second Empire, Portraits, Religious Inspirations, The Dark Side - with many sub-chapters within each main chapter.Highly recommended.P.S.Mini James Draper led fly-on-the-sculpture film of Carpeaux's 'Le Trait D'Union' sketch; 82nd-and-fifth.metmuseum.org/healer - The other films on the site are all very worth watching.Enjoy.

Beautifully illustrated book about an amazing artist whose work is comes the closest to emanating the qualities of life.  If you have never heard of this artist , haven't had a chance to see an exhibit of his work or have been lucky enough to have seen his work this book is worth buying . It is eye candy, a real treat and will make you want to see these amazing sculptures.
