Mary Magdalene Revealed: The First Apostle, Her Feminist Gospel & the Christianity We Haven't Tried Yet

I have listened to this book, read by the author, several times and experienced laughter, tears, chills and a heartfelt knowing each time. I have also read the text in paperback and enjoyed it in that form and have bought and shared numerous copies of the paperback and audible versions. The combination of the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, interspersed with Meggan's stories and experiences, was a life-altering take on the story of Jesus, the sacred relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene, and what Christianity can be at its good, true, eye-of-the-heart source.

Mary Magdalene Revealed by Meggan Watterson is a powerful and beautifully written book that invites the reader to see Mary Magdalene through a completely different lens — not as a fallen woman, but as a spiritual teacher, a devoted follower of Christ, and a voice of sacred feminine wisdom. Watterson blends history, mysticism, and spiritual reflection in a way that feels both accessible and deeply moving. The writing is lyrical and devotional, and the message is clear: Mary Magdalene’s legacy is one of love, truth, and spiritual authority. This book is especially meaningful for anyone drawn to the divine feminine, healing religious trauma, or reclaiming a deeper relationship with faith that includes women’s voices. A soulful, empowering read.

In recent years I have been drawn to Mary Magdalene (and this in time brought me to Meggan Watterson). Suffice to say she is engaging, accessible, thought provoking and in a profound way provides a leap forward for someone seeking spiritual union. That union I have begun to experience in the past ten years after decades of seeking and learning is a journey within. Great spiritual teaching isn't impossibly theoretical. It is intimate. Thank you for your writing and your wonderful monthly teachings.

I am marking this a 4 because the author is all about love and notes that she gets self-conscious about her work, but I honestly felt some parts of the book were a 3 and others 4. I finished the book not feeling like I learned much about Mary Magdalene, but a whole lot about a LGBTQ’s woman’s ADHD pick-and-choose feminist beliefs based on various things she read in Divinity School, an adventure to France, and things she sees when she meditates. ~5% of the book is scripture, 25% is about Mary Magdalene and 70% is a hodgepodge of various scripture, empowered women spiritual stories, miscellaneous spiritual stories, and then synchronicity’s that connect all of the above to the author’s life. It’s pretty scattered. Still, she manages to tie most of her ideas together, and I read the whole book because I too have a short attention span and enjoy personal narratives and the stories she shares. I’d 100% recommend this book to feminists and lesbians who perhaps walked away from their faith or relationship with Christ and are seeking a new perspective to connect again. It’s empowering to know there is a reason why the church developed to be so male centric, and why the Gospel of Mary was cut out in the first place. To those who are curious about what the Gospel of Mary actually says and want to interpret for themselves- 100% skip this. You won’t find that here. You’ll find a whole lot of feminist biases. She spends a lot of the book promoting Magdalene’s unique teachings about the aspects of the ego, and then explains her interpretations of them in the middle of the book for about 7 pages, and not a lot of insight with how to navigate them. Unfortunately, that’s the nature of the missing Gospel. I’m still mystified that the exact pages of the book are missing in all three ultra rare copies of the recovered texts.

This book is truly life changing! I was feeling lost in my spiritual practice and frustrated with the dogmatic and patriarchal religious system I grew up in and that maybe there was something wrong with me about why I just couldn’t connect to what was being shared in church. Also, I kept bringing up to people in my life the question, I wonder how different the Bible would be if it was written by women?, and female friends (who are very religious) would say huh I’ve never thought of that. Then I heard Meggan Watterson on the We Can Do Hard Things podcast and my worldview literally exploded in the best way. I felt seen, heard, validated by her sharing of Mary Magdalene’s gospel. Learning about Mary’s perspective in this book has made me want to read the Bible and learn more about Jesus’ life through her lens. Every chapter in this book has a pearl of wisdom. I have the book on audiobook too because I feel like I need to keep reading and listening over and over to solidify this new worldview that has given me inspiration and peace. Thank you Meggan for sharing about Mary, this book is truly amazing.

This book touched me on a deep level. It is a perfect blend of theology and personal story, written in a style that is engaging, fun, funny, deep, intense and heartfelt. I found myself alternating tears and laughter, all the while noticing that memories were surfacing and that something new was churning within me. Meggan Watterson is not just knowledgeable about the facts surrounding the life of Mary Magdalene, she is also brilliantly insightful when it comes to turning inside out what Mary was made into by the Church. As she does so, we are able to understand ourselves more fully, we are able to see aspects of ourselves that have been dormant, overlooked, understated, and even reviled. We are able to remember the truth of who we are and this truth is profound, for it is the language of the heart; it is the truest of all loves. I found the pages of this book to be filled with healing transmissions. I'm changed as a result of it. Not only do I have a greater understanding of Mary and her gospel, but I also understand myself more fully. I'm more at home in my body. This is a book I will return to again and again as I feel like there are layers to the integration of the information and the transmissions that it contains. I'm filled with gratitude and a deep desire that these words find their way deep into the heart of our world and our culture for they are revolutionary in their healing effect.

I have not felt so deeply a TRUTH, in years. This tells the story of every woman throughout our HIStory. The depth of understanding the reality of being Human, and immersed in love as all of the Great Teachers have attempted to pass on to us. It is accessible to all who seek.

This book was life changing for me! I came to know Christ on a much higher level through Mary Magdalene. I have given it as a gift to over a dozen people.
