Unauthorised Guide To Harley Davidson
I found the book very interesting but it is quite hard going at times. Then again, it's not a novel, it is a technical manual. It did give me a lot of information on HD engines and the problems that beset them in the past, and how they were overcome. The book is all that I thought it would be but it is not light reading - I go back frequently to look up particular sections although that is generally to the actual paperback - I have the kindle edition also but oily hands on my stepdaughters kindle would not be appreciated. The book is not really a "how to" manual as the Clymer or Haynes would be more an in depth study of that particular developement of the HD engine.I really like the book, I've read reviews that it is not an easy read, being a bit hard going at times - I felt it was also a bit lacking in character development as well, but then it is a technical manual so what would you expect - some of what it deals with is quite complex. If you are a Harley fan and interested in the evolution of motorcycle engines this is the book for you - the Kindle edition is cheaper than the paperback

Like all the Donny Petersen stuff it's excellent
Like all the Donny Petersen stuff it's excellent. Not a workshop manual in any way. It is full of very deep discussion & description of the workings (and breakings) of the Twincam. If you are interested & understand in the insides of the Twincam & the ways of Harley motors this is for you. Lots of stuff about running your bike, oils in particular. I bought it (& the other Petersen Tech Guides) after reading various extracts that were reproduced in AIM to me they are all well written and detailed. Recommended

Amazing detail
Amazingly detailed but not completely free from errors and weird typeface changes. Recommended overall though.

Technical Guide
Nicely written, but I miss more comparisons with previous models. Which parts fit across the year models.Sure there are some interesting parts but I'm disappointed, I expected more.

I like the talk
I wish I'd bought this book years ago. I've been riding my Dyna FXDX since 2000. About 100 000 miles on it now and curently having an engine overall. Wish I'd known a little more about some of the (little) problems I've had earlier. On my 2nd set of SE cams now with an SE tensioner and oil pump upgrade. Wish I 'd changed that ages ago.I like the talk, the little details and the way it's written. It's not a service manual but then I have that. The Harley manual and the Haynes - not so good. Shame there aren't more photos - maybe there will be in the 2nd performance volume.I'm only 100 pages into the 700 but I like the approach he has. I've always thought this was one of the best Harley's built. I'm not a trained mechanic but a self-taught one and there is so much extra info that I'm enjoyng. And really good explanations about the manufacturing and design process. My only beef is that it's pricey and the second volume is also costly. And having driven through Virginia and the the Blue Ridge, Skyline and Gettysberg area this year I really loved the "Harley Fantasy Tour of 1999" part. A nice coincidence.
