Performance Tool W80671 37 Degree Steel Flaring Tool

Used to build up my stock of fittings and AN tools. Looks like nice tool and of good quality

I read the reviews. I knew this wasn't the best 37 degree flaring tool out there but I only needed to make 6 flares in soft 1/2" copper. The setup was easy. I deburred the end of the tube, reamed it to make sure it was round, and then deburred again to make sure it was good and burr free. I set the copper into the tool and clamped it down to the right depth. Very straight forward. I proceeded to turn the flaring head into the bore. About half way into the bore, the friction increased as expected. I kept turning as it had only begun to flare the tubing....and then SNAP! The flaring head sheared off in the tubing. SMH! the point of the flaring head was stuck in the tube and wouldn't come out. I packed the tool up and proceeded to contact amazon for a return. (Thank you Amazon.) Really unfortunate tool.... This is not a quality tool by any means. Performance Tool usually has solid tools that just work. Nothing fancy, but effective. This is NOT one of those! I ended up purchasing the Ridgid Model #377. It's 4X the price of this, but it flat out works and works great!

Albeit an inexpensive flaring tool if you have used one before and properly square the ends and prep workes just fine.Works very well with the copper nickel tubing.Just an fyi for those using copper nickel be sure to flush all old fluid and keep a schedule to do it.It can react with water and degrade causing issues with ABS sensors ever 40 to 50 K brake fluid should be flushed when using copper nickel lines.

The tool is cheap and there are a lot of reviews saying it's complete garbage. I had a similar experience at first until I refined my use of the tool. 2 things you must do. To get a properly sized flare you need to extend the open end of the pipe out past the face of the flare die by a small amount; I want to say about and 1/8". Second, and this was the point that completely changed how well the tool worked for me, is to use grease on the cone and the inside lip of the pipe before you flare it. This changed my results completely and created a very decent flare. It also made tightening of the tool much easier. Without grease it was really hard to even turn the cone and compress the flare into the pipe.

I used it to flare 3/16 aluminum tubing. It marred the tube somewhat, which easily happens with aluminum, but I easily sanded away the ridges and the flare worked perfectly. For occasional use this is a very good value.

This tool is so poorly finished that it is useless. I only tried to use it on one setting for one application, but it fits together so badly that it is unable to hold the line. They had the foresight to add some texture inside the holes, but it doesn't matter when the tool still fits together so loosely that it still doesn't grasp the lines. What you have here is a very imprecise tool that you need to work on a precision part. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

Understand it for what it is and don't expect it to be what it's not. Its a 37 degree flare tool for under 25 dollars. Don't expect the performance of a tool that cost 5 times as much. That being said I successfully made 8 flares with this tool on hard heavy hydraulic line with no issues. It will mare the tube some at the clamp because of the design but it was purely cosmetic. I honestly didn't expect it to do as well as it did based off the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Make sure your ends are square and clean and you will be fine. I wouldn't expect it to do well on anything harder then mild steel not stainless for sure.

Bought this to make water lines for my twin wastegates, works nice, would have liked a case instead of the tray but that's my only complaint.

The holes in the grip bar are not correctly sized, leading to oval deformation of the tube - especially when using the larger 1/2" size for AN-8 fittings, which is simply too small for 1/2" OD tube. Attempting to clamp down forcefully leaves the tube in a shape that cannot accomodate a tube nut.

Flare tool didn't even come close to working. Attempted use on 3/8 line, it ovaled the line and couldn't even clamp the line enough to stop it from slipping. Line pushed straight through the grip without any flare happening. And yes the grip was tight, nuts bottomed put and the grip deforming around the tube. Same line flared easily with a 45 degree flare kit used for testing the process before buying this 37 degree kit
