Flimsy design that breaks easy

The shredder cone, the only cone of the four that I've used, breaks because of poor design, even through I took care NOT to force anything through. Here's the issue: The two cutting blades in the cone are housed in plastic that is not thick enough for the pressure that MUST be exerted to shred anything except soft foods. It's a case of poor engineering. I had to order, and pay for, a $16 replacement cone—on a device that, new, costs $72 for a shredder including 4 different cones.The plastic that houses (i.e., frames) the two metal shredding blades is about as thick as a twenty-five-cent coin—i.e., an American quarter. The cost to double that dimension would probably be less than a nickel for all four cones. Thus re-engineered, the cones would be able to withstand the forces involved when an ordinary baking potato is sliced or shredded, as the photo on the box art shows the woman doing. Since that was the hardest food I shredded, I’m sure that was the cause of the fracture.Other than that, it’s a fine product. But when it breaks that easily, it's worthy of just one star. It was simpler to buy a replacement shredder cone than to do whatever’s required to have the cone replaced by the manufacturer while the device was still under warranty.

This is a real piece of junk. Would've been easier and faster to just shred the cole slaw by hand. Cheap, poor design, falls apart while you're using it. Plastic cracks easily. Motor bogs down while shredding CABBAGE.I would avoid this item and look for a better quality shredder.
