Perfect for protecting my cats!!
Loooove this! After a horrible indecent with one of our cats jumping off our 12ft balcony on the hardwood into the great room, I had to find something to guard the loft to give me peace of mind she wouldn't jump again. I now feel so safe leaving my cats home during the day while my husband and I are gone. Don't have to worry about them jumping and hurting themselves. I was able to put this up myself in a little over an hour. Totally easy to figure out and gets easier as you do it. I had 16ft to cover and this was just the right length. I attached a picture oooking up from the main living floor and as you can tell it's very hard to tell. If you look at it at the right angle you'll see a glare from the windows but it doesn't bother us at all! Thanks for making such a thing to make my life easier and my cats lives safer!! Totally worth the $30!

Expensive for the noisy, hard to clean, kind of ugly product you get, but works.
This is a glossy roll of flexible plastic. Not flexible like a hallway runner, but flexible like those semi rigid plastic sheets you unroll to go sled riding on, that make a noise like thunder when you shake them. It comes with a cheap hole punch (my handles bent before I finished installing the shield) and a bunch of crap, crappy zip ties.Honestly, when I opened the box I was disappointed for what I received considering the price.Having said that, after installing it, it works. It's high gloss finish picks up dirty little fingerprints and dog nose marks no matter how often you clean it, and it is noisy when someone or something brushes against it, but it keeps our dogs from getting between the bannisters and upstairs. I think if our 3 year old pushed hard enough, the punched holes would rip out of the thin plastic material, though. It was hard to trim neatly with scissors so I ended up using a box cutter with a new blade, which worked fine.I didn't want the fine mesh style ones because the dogs could chew through them, but I'm on the fence about this. It doesn't seem like you get much for what you pay for, but at the same time, though flawed, it works for the basic purpose it's sold for. I wouldn't recommend it fully to a friend without the aforementioned reservations.

Very Specific Must Have
Our house has a small landing with horizontal banisters, which is basically an off-limits climbing wall (which makes it so much more fun!). After a few days of constant “no climbing” reminders, we knew we had to find a better solution. This is the only thing I found that would work for our needs, but if we didn’t have the type of bannister we have, I would never have purchased a guard and mesh/net barriers wouldn’t have solid enough to prevent climbing.A couple things to know before you buy:- While it is clear, it is shiny and will reflect the light, so it’s not visually undetectable. Handprints will also show, so add it to your weekly cleaning list!- The cable ties included are white. I purchased black ones separately to match our railings.- We basically traded a ladder for a drum. Other reviewers mentioned how loud it is once installed (and it really is) and your child will love to bang on it... but I’ll live with it in the name of safety!- My hand still aches from using the included hole punch. If you have a large space to cover, I’d recommend buying a nicer punch too.Overall, I’m relieved we have safeguarded our stairs but I don’t love that I had to do it and wouldn’t volunteer to do it again unless absolutely necessary!

Zip-tied areas are stronger than screwed on areas
We've been using this banister guard for about a year now. We've got 1 baby and a toddler who need it so it has gone through a lot of pushing and pulling. It can handle light gentle use but will crack under pressure. I was surprised that the parts that we screwed on came loose first. Another thing to take note of is that our children thought the banister guard was inviting them to run straight into it or climb up it. When they did this the wooden banister rods would break under the pressure. Please also consider that the fingerprints are going to make a big mess on the clear part so you will have to clean it periodically. It has done the job of making our stairs safer and I can't think of a better option available on Amazon, but it isn't as sturdy as I originally hoped.
