Is this a big kid size 4?

Yes. This is the only shoe my 10 year old will wear. So comfortable for him.

How do I pick the right size for a girl?

A girl size would be 1.5 down in boys.

If my daughter wears a 8 in ladies will the size 6 in big kids fit her

I also wear a 7 1/2 or 8 in women's and mine are a 5 and they fit perfect. So the 6 should be fine!
