Spruce is less porous and so less likely to shrink, warp or split and is less susceptible to blue mould. It has fewer knots than pine and is also less resinous, which makes the possibility of sap ruining your clothes or furnishings much less likely. Slowly grown Spruce from colder climates have more densely-packed growth rings and therefore have far greater strength and durability than Pine or “mixed softwoods”, which age and weather more noticeably, leading to a striped effect on your cabin. Many manufacturers use a mix of timber saving them money. They use the lowest cost timber and then mix these up during production, often using finger joints. PRESSURE TREATED PERIMETER BEARERS All of our garden buildings include pressure treated bearers as standard. As they are exposed to the damp, cold ground. This treatment will prevent them from rot, decay and insect infestation for at least 10 years. We only suggest that you apply a good quality water repellent to prolong the longevity of the timber. AVOID SAGGING ROOF Our log buildings feature heavy duty 140mm roof beams that support the roof and prevent dangerous and unsightly sagging. Just like every other part of your building, this important part of the structure will never be glued or screwed together with off-cuts. We only use single pieces of timber for our purlins to provide you with a strong and stable roof . ADJUSTABLE STORM BRACES To control natural expansion and contraction of the timber, our buildings feature wooden braces known as Storm Braces. Secured by bolts, these braces can be adjusted to spread the timber's natural movement equally across a much larger area and helps to prevent gaps from appearing as the logs settle and move over time. TALL WALKTHROUGH HEIGHT We were the first to provide a door with tall walkthrough height to the UK market. There's no need to 'duck' on the way in through our quality single side door. With a tall walkthrough height you’re free to move in and out of your garage concussion free. Others have tried to copy us, but have had to include the door frame as part of the height to make it sound taller than it is! 4-POINT DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM Windows and doors are at the heart of your building's security, and we design ours to ensure that only welcome visitors can enter. As Standard, we feature a secure four-point locking system on the single side door. This includes: hook, locking latch and two roller cams. We combine this with a 6 pin Euro cylinder , the same type of lock cylinder you would find on the front door of a typical house. The window features espagnolettes and a key locking handle. Why should your garage be any less secure than your home? DOUBLE GLAZED TOUGHENED GLASS We use 4mm toughened glass in our windows and doors for increased safety and security . It is much more difficult to scratch or bend than the plastic alternatives, such as Styrene, Acrylic and Perspex, so it'll preserve the clear view of your garden. The tempering process makes toughened glass far stronger than the alternatives, and harder to break than normal glass. In addition, if it does happen to break, it will shatter into many small pieces, rather than scattering dangerous shards. The window and door are supplied with 24mm double glazed sealed units, which conform to BS EN 1279 Standards. ROBUST HINGES The Garage Barn Doors come with six robust Strap Hinges , which are not just screwed in place, but bolted through both the door and framework, making them secure. Our windows are made with Stainless Steel Friction-Stay Hinges . These aid in keeping the window open in your desired position and removes the need for a stay arm as per traditional timber windows. Additional Information Installation - We do not offer installation. All our garden buildings have been designed for the DIY market and supplied with full pictorial instructions. Delivery Service - All of our products are delivered using our own fleet of vehicles, not sub-contractors. Our deliveries take place Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 7:00 pm. Foundation - We recommend a flat, level concrete base with an allowance of at least 100mm on each side. e.g. A 4m by 3m building would have a base of 4.2m by 3.2m Untreated Interlocking Logs - We only use full lengths of engineered precision cut and routed tongue and groove timber in our log buildings. These logs are planed, leaving you with a smooth finish and a more aesthetically pleasing and stronger product. We don't provide you with rough offcuts, glued and finger-jointed together, which would create a weakened cabin and an off-putting appearance. No Bespoke Sizes - All our products are sold as advertised and we don’t do bespoke sizes. This allows us to ensure consistent quality of our products and precise cuts made by our machines.
