About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. Play with Purpose How did you come up with the idea for this product? Our journey began with our Empathy Kit – which grew out of our founder’s volunteer experience with a neighborhood preschool class. We have since grown to over a dozen such products, which we test thoroughly to ensure their simplicity and effectiveness. By providing an environment and system for children to identify and access their emotions and character traits, we help them grown into strong, well-rounded, and global citizens. What makes your product special? It's really not about our product, it's the experience parents and children can have through play. Happy Heart Kid's aim to break down barrier of teaching kids abstract ideas such as empathy, gratitude, perseverance and help parents teach these values through creative play. There has been a welcome change in the educational value of toys and the importance of STEM and literacy skills in the early years of children. However while schools are emphasizing social emotional learning, there are a lack of tools for parents to bring this kind of learning at home. Happy Heart Kid aims to: 1. Fills the gap in social development tools 2. Caters to children of all abilities 3. Develops the EQ or emotional intelligence What has been the best part of your startup experience? Connecting with moms, educators and preschoolers. Startup life can be challenging and frustrating most of the time, but hearing from parents that our product has had a positive impact on their child's life has helped melt all the worries away.

HIGH QUALITY KIT!
My kids love this kit. Everything about it is high quality. We hate buying activity boxes that our kids spend a lot of time putting together the activities but because the pieces are low quality they don't last and we have to throw them away. This is SO HIGH QUALITY we will get years of use out of the items. We love that the wooden game pieces came with a bag, because who likes to lose all the pieces? Also, my child was so proud to make the banner and the paper was a nice thick paper that almost felt plastic like (which means that it will last longer). The Journal was also high quality paper. All around, this kit was made thoughtful and we couldn't recommend it more.

Expertly Designed Tools and Games to Proactively Teach Life Skills
I actually purchased the Try Try Again Suncatcher (I actually bought 2 - one for each kids' room) and the Jungle Game separately from the Happy Heart Kid website. These items are included in the Grit Kit plus a lot more. The suncatcher kit comes with a story about a butterfly that sparked a great discussion about what happens when we quit. I liked that the activity that came with the kit wasn't easy. My 5 yr old daughter was able to complete the letters by herself but there are so many that in the middle she wanted to give up - but she didn't when I reminded her of the butterfly story. She did wisely take a break in the middle of the craft to play with her brother and then came back to it refreshed. I had to help my 2 yr old with his suncatcher but the concept was simple enough that he was able to be part of it. It came with everything we needed to complete the craft, even the glue stick! As for the Jungle Game - it's amazing. And silly. And my kids love it. The game comes with several situation cards and then you make the tool discs by putting stickers on them. To play the game one person chooses a situation card, reads it, and then blindly chooses 3 tools out of the bag. You have to then come up with a way to use ALL 3 tools to solve the problem. That's actually quite tricky and where the game gets the silliness that my kids love. How does one use a rocket ship and a bicycle at the same time? Beyond problem solving, kids practice reading, compassion, creativity, imagination, and cooperation.

Excellent Kit For Encouraging Perserverance
I received this kit for the purpose of review. I absolutely love it! Let me tell you a story about one of the activities and how it helped encourage grit in my daughter.For the sun catcher, my daughter first arranged the letters in order and glued tissue paper on the back for a rainbow effect.Arranging the letters was easy for her. Then came gluing on the tissue paper. When she tried to glue, the paper would come off on her finger, fall off the letters and gaps between pieces formed. Immediately, she responded, "I don't like it."Each activity comes with a note to parents about how to encourage Grit. This was one of the instances I turned to the note. I started asking her questions:"How can you fix it?""I don't know," she replied.Here, I waited and stared. We had just read about Kuya, the butterfly and how she didn't give up when she didn't succeed at first. Llama knew what I expected."Well..... I have something. But it's not going to work." "Try that idea," I responded.She ended up gluing tissue paper to tissue paper to fill in the holes. Her solution worked and she finished the project.This kit introduced the concept of perseverance to my daughter in a concrete and fun way. Now, when she struggles with a task, I can use the word "Grit" and her experience with the activities in this kit to convince her to consider other solutions to her problems. The kit helped me as a parent talk her through her frustrations. She realizes now that just because she doesn't succeed at something on her first try, she can just "Try, Try Again.

"I bought the Grit kit because my friend, Jeni, wrote about it in her blog. (http://jeniawer.blogspot.com/2015/08/sweet-summer-days-with-happy-heart-kid.html) I thought my daughter would love it and I was right! It was supposed to be a Christmas gift but we were traveling and I didn't want her to be on the tablet or watch TV in the hotel the whole time. She loves the story and the activities and her favorite game is the jungle game. She keeps asking to play it over and over again. I was actually surprised that she did the journal too. She normally doesn't like the tracing activities in her other activity books but she did the journal and she loved it and it was so fun to watch her because she was very serious and careful while tracing those caterpillar eggs and the leaves.

This kit is a must have! As a preschool teacher I have used this in my classroom to introduce the concept of perseverance as it is hard at times for little ones to follow through on any given activity from start to finish.The kids were intrigued when i read the story about the monarch caterpillar's transformation into a butterfly and were very interested in answering related questions that followed.My son & I enjoyed playing the jungle game that is included in this kit and what i loved about it was that it helped my son develop problem solving skills.The fun craft included in this kit has a great message and kept my son engaged for a long time.I absolutely love this Kit.What a great way to teach such an important life skill.
