A good idea poorly executed
This almost works... The large disc with the rubbery ring that magnetically attaches to the phone - holds on to the phone well, even through my ~0.040" thick plastic case. However, I had to remove the smaller metal disc inside the rubbery ring before it would hold on well because the smaller inner disc didn't allow the rubbery ring part to contact the back of the phone. Without making contact, the phone, an iPhone 4s, would simply slid off and fall to the floor. The second problem was that the metal ball that everything pivots is too large in diameter. It was weak and would hold the phone where I positioned it. It would just slump to where ever gravity pulled it. I had purchased another version of this mount that worked even worse but the mount had a smaller ball. I found that by using the mount with the smaller ball, there was more contact area between the two parts which resulted in more friction to help keep the phone where I positioned it.So, if used as intended, this mount is pretty useless unless your phone weighs under 80 grams. (Mine is about 180grams.) Or you can do as I did and combine the parts of other useless ball mounts, that only work with cardboard phones and tablets, to make an okay one.
